If I'm Colorado I don't match. O'Rielly was an early 2nd rounder chances are they could get a player of O'Rielly's caliber or better with Calgary's 1st. They could even try moving up to get an even better chance at a player of O'rielly's caliber buy dealing both Calgary's 1st and their own.

They still have Landeskog, Duchene and Stastny but their D corps are terrible, especially with Johnson out. That's potentially two high picks, maybe they have what it takes to trade up for Jones.

For a Colorado team that's trying to get back into the playoffs, they need the proven player. Picks don't really do them much good at this point.

They do need to fire Sherman, though. That guy has no idea how to negotiate a contract.

ROR is becoming one of the most overrated players in some time.

I would have taken the picks, personally.

Yep...agreed. Such a bizarre 5 hours or so of ROR news.

Likewise, but I like the opportunity that this episode has shown. It at least means some other teams might have the chance to rip off the Flames org.

I wonder if they'll do Brassard for that 1st and 3rd...

Colorado should match, but then again I'm not sure I'd want that drama queen on my team if I'm Colorado.
until they wisen up and trade iginla and kipprusoff for prospects and more picks and tank

ROR 10 mil two years for a guy that has not yet scored 20 goals in a season. The lockout made littler difference. The owners still have no restraint. This sets oor precident in whats to come. Have to think that Hornqvist will want 5 mil oh and Josi will take 3 mil to resign. Puts a tighter wrinkle on the cap next year.

If Feaster isn't fired for this, I don't know what Calgary is doing.

If the Avs hadn't match, ROR would have had to clear waivers. He would never have made it through, so Calgary would have been forced to give Colorado their 1st and 3rd, just to lose him to waivers.

My god.

Why would he have to clear waivers?

He was a free agent that played in a league other than the NHL this year. There is an exception in the CBA for RFAs returning to their own team, but not for offer sheets. Mackenzie/TSN/etc. confirm.

Same rule we got Marek Svatos off of when STL signed him.

because he was playing in the KHL and was signed to a contract in the midst of a season. Remeber all that Radulov waiver crap people tried to say should apply? This is what it applies to. (just my educated guess btw)

he won't be because I bet 50% of the GMs didn't know themselves. We didn't know and Nashville is the lawyer hipster base of the NHL.

Fact is, ROR's agent dropped a bombshell on TSN Radio. The CBA isn't done and everyone has been working with ****ing cliffnotes!

Dear hockey gods,

OK, we get it, the Blackhawks are in your favor at the moment, but Dan "How am I still in the NHL?" Carcillo potting the GWG?? Seriously??

psssttt - you can make it up to the rest of the league by bouncing them in the first round.

Wow that is a big contract but not surprising. Anybody who thought Getzlaf was going to be available after the year the ducks are having was totally dreaming. I expect Perry to be signing soon too.

Hawks loss really sobering. But you can expect they will double down and go on another tear. As amazing as it is they may not lose 5 games in regulation. Thats just sick.
