ROR was not getting traded from Colorado RFA list to Calgary's RFA list, he was getting signed FROM colorado's list. I think he would have went through waiver

Thanks.. I thought that was the case at one time.

Edit: Here's a quote from the article in the OP explaining it..

Quote:
Because O’Reilly spent the last three years in Colorado, he’s not viewed as a free agent who is joining a NHL team from Europe midway through the season. As a result, he does not need to clear waivers before suiting up for the Avs again.

What a shame Colorado had to go and ruin it. This would've been the worst move of all-time.

In all seriousness, I can't think of anything worse. Can you?
Anybody have Milbury's Wikipedia page handy?

Do you remember what the Edmonton Oilers got for trading Mark Messier? I don't and I remember when it happened. Think about that for a second.

Harry Frazee of the Boston Red Sox sold players to pay for his theatre and one of them was Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. That blunder hurt the Red Sox for generations.
Messier deal wasn't bad, they got Bernie Nicholls. Rice was a big prospect back then too.

On October 4, 1991, in one of many cost-cutting moves by Edmonton management, Messier was traded to the New York Rangers for Louie DeBrusk, Bernie Nicholls, and Steven Rice

That makes it excusable? Just another dumb Gainey move.

Seriously. Kostitsyn probably needed to go, but for 2 free agents we wouldn't use, really? Shame.

Read this on the main board:

https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/s...69163478630401

Bob McKenzie

BTW, if COL didn't match and CGY got ROR, CGY would've been obligated to put him on waivers. No provision for paying him not to play.

So basically he would've had to go to waivers... no choice. Also, Colorado apparently hasn't filed the papers yet meaning they could still come back and screw Calgary over.

Which would be hilarious.

But Calgary would have to send in return a 1st and a 3rd to Colorado so its probably still technically considered a trade by the NHL I would think, definitely not sure on that though

It would be the one of the greatest moves in hockey history! And maybe that's why they haven't filed the papers yet.

Personally, I'd have to say DiPietro's contract. 15-year bloated contract for an unproven goalie.

Wow.

Jay Feaster was already the worst GM in the league in my opinion.

would've be even more legendary if Calgary ended up dead last at the end of the season and Colorado drafts Drouin or McKinnon or Jones.

Dan Ellis is a good backup, tho. Better than Budaj, IMO. But that doesn't make the trade good!

Colorado don't sign. Calgary put ROR on waiver. Columbus pick him up.

To Columbus: Calgary's 3rd
To Colorado: ROR
To Calgary: Nothing

LOL

I remember laughing a lot when Mel Bridgman then Ottawa's GM drafted a player that had been allready drafted few hours before.
