Sens were interested in Ryan Malone back at the deadline, I believe. He's an RFA who could be asking for more than we will give him. Wouldn't surprise me to see the Sens atleast inquire about him.

It's doing his developement a major disservice to have to stand on his head every night because he's got guys like Melichar and Scuderi in front of him.

I highly doubt Malone skips town for a little dough...

This guy was born and raised here, loves this town, loves this team, and fullfilling his dream of playing on this team. That is a HUGE factor most people overlook.

What did he make last year? $750k? CP gave him a $150k raise and said he had to repeat and prove himself. Ryan Malone went out there and did that.

Shero took over as GM and gave him standard raise offer, normal business procedure. Ryan is probablly looking for a multi-year deal around 1.5 million dollars per year. Can't really blame him for asking for it.

My guess is Malone signs with the Pens for around 1.25 million per year for 2 years.

Andre Savard isn't a defensive coach. We didn't hire Denis Savard.

Could have fooled me, that is exacly what he is assigned to and was brought in to do. Sure beats Hiller with Edzo & Co..

He [Savard] is considered a shrewd judge of talent and, while his primary job will be overseeing the Penguins' defense corps and penalty-killing, Savard's duties will not stop there.

"He's going to be more than a typical assistant coach," Therrien said. "He's going to evaluate players ... he'll bring a lot more than people expect."

Michel Therrien and/or Mike Yeo coach the defense.

Because Melichar and Scuderi are gone, right?

Eaton was a solid acquisition but if you think our defense is fine as is, you're nuts. Add Volchenkov to the picture and the defense gains considerably more depth and improves its grit considerably.

Yeah, the Sens aren't going to try to field the best team possible under the salary cap system. I guess the Flyers aren't either - that's why they signed Geoff Sanderson?
