While I refute the rumour still, it HAS to be for someone else other than Schwartz or Cole.
I understand, and it's Strickland, so it's probably BS.

Why is Gardiner in the minors anyway? No room or was he playing bad?

He absolutely has not been. He's, in my eyes, been easily our best defender. He has some mental lapses; but not at some higher frequency than all other defenders. He's generally been great at containing the other team's top scorer

No, he is a Habs fan. Ignore him.

I'll be honest on my opinion on Phaneuf. I don't think he is a true #1 d-man but he is capable top-pairing player who has been some of his best hockey lately.

Way too much hate for Komisarek here...yeah, he's way overpaid, but he's still a serviceable physical d-man, especially when paired with a good offensive-minded defensively responsible partner (see his Markov years)...Blues have a couple of those, so it makes sense.

He was concussed, so, he initially went down on a conditioning stint, but then guys like Franson, Fraser, Holzer and Kostka started to play very well, and then the room for him suddenly closed. It's probably better for him to get top pairing minutes in the AHL under Eakins than to be getting mostly overlooked in the NHL getting far less minutes than he should.

That's what I thought, and I know it would take something good to get him, and that he is most likely untouchable.

Just saying if we are moving Schwartz, it won't be for something average.

I think this likely makes the most sense, especially if you parcel one of Toronto's surplus D-men in, say Korbinian Holzer, Mark Fraser or maybe even Liles.

Neutral boards does not mean neutral opinion .

He has been very good for us, an absolute horse in 90% of games that he has played this season. Scored the GwG yesterday as well.

I don't see why Strickland would mention Cole then.

If, and that's a big if Strickland is right, and Schwartz is being mentioned, I'd imagine it would be for Gardiner. Two young big potential guys.
Basically he only has 4 (I think) left of eligibility to be moved to the the Marlies without having to pass through waivers. So The Leafs want to make sure he's fully ready and rehabbed from his concussion to make sure he won't be sitting up on the team and struggling.

Ummm, you do realize that he's been a minus player every year since he became a Leaf, right??...if Phaneuf was a horse, he'd have been put down by now.

Darren Dreger mentioned the same rumor so it has to have some truth.

Mark Fraser leads the league in +/- he's obviously the best defenseman in the NHL going by your logic.

I believe the part about Kulemin, it makes sense.

Cole, doesn't make sense because we have a need on defense, and Toronto has a surplus.

Schwartz is plausible if he is moved for something more significant than Kulemin.

Gunnarsson is another piece that would makes sense.

You must be a big watcher of the Toronto Maple Leafs with your extensive knowledge of his +/-!

I'm not even going to respond, I'll let others do my dirty work for me.

I could see St. Louis and Toronto talking, but not for the names being mentioned here.

If the Blues have Stanley Cup aspirations the one thing missing from their line-up is a top-end offensive player. They are strong in net, on defence, have depth up front,
but don't have the offensive game-breaker.

I could see them packaging multiple assets for one higher-level talent, and from the Leafs that could be Kessel. He's a UFA after the 2013-14 season and I wouldn't be surprised if he's tired of being the lightning rod of criticism for a franchise because of a trade Brian Burke made.

Top-end players are rarely made available, and if there's even a hint of Kessel possibly being available, I would think that the Blues would at least entertain the notion.

I just don't see any incentive for the Leafs to trade with the Blues right now...

Kulemin hasn't been scoring much, but he's been an instrumental player on our checking line with Grabo. Ian Cole is obviously a decent piece, but the Leafs are already 9-deep on the blueline. What the heck is the point of adding another 18-minute defenceman???

As for Scwartz, what's the point? We're loaded on the wings.

It makes sense from the Leafs standpoint to trade a forward for a D.
