Phaneuf is a fantastic first pairing all-around defenseman. Your name is either a masterpiece of irony or pathetically truthful.

No. He really wouldn't. We're not trading out leavin scorer and one of our top two way forwards for a prospect. Even if that prospect is Jake Gardiner.

Schwartz's size concerns me and I actually haven't seen a lot of him since the Juniors. Can anyone fill me in on how he's doing?

Also, is the Blues' centre depth still too shallow for Berglund to ever be traded?

I don't hate Dion, but he's waaay too much of a defensive liability and leadfooted as hell...OK, maybe I was a bit harsh; top pairing, as long as it was with a very defensively responsible partner, sure.

Changes are going to need to be made in the coming weeks, whether winning or losing.
Yeah, and when that happens, if we're improbably healthy, we'll clear from the bottom.

If St. Louis wants Komisarek, they can likely have him. Liles is distancing himself from the lineup as well, and MacArthur may become available if Lupul/Frattin return without anybody getting hurt.

However, there's no reason for the Leafs to clear a guy like Kulemin.

Can't see the Blues, who are cap floor team, trade away cost controlled players like Schwartz and Cole. Doesn't make sense.

Stewart had a down year last year but has returned to form and been great this year, I still agree that Kuli is a better 2 way player though

Stewart was a shell of his former self last season. This year, he's moved his feet, hit like a truck, and had started producing offense. He's looking like his former self again.

Whoever said Gardiner doesn't get Schwartz, is way off. It's the other way around.

I'm thinking a Stewart/Kulemin swap.

St. Louis gets the better two-way forward, born to play in the Blues system.

Toronto gets the tough scoring power forward they desperately need.

Maybe a prospect pick from either side to even things out, but value of each player is close.

meh... lateral move.

if it was MacArthur I'd be more intrigued. Stewart just fills the void by Kulemin

MacArthur + pospect/pick for Stewart

Really doubt the Blues trade Stewart. They need his toughness. One of the only fighters we have. He's playing great this year too.

Thats terrible for the Blues, I really doubt we will be moving Stewart, we need to get tougher, not the other way around

Before the season something like that could well have been possible, not now. Stewart has been doing the right things in basically every game. Playing hard, getting in front of the net, getting in the face of opposition, getting pucks on net and has his numbers reflect that. He's certainly become a more responsible player than he was as well, but will always be somewhat limited because he isn't a very smart player.

After his commitment over the summer and lockout, and taking a discount on his contract to prove himself... I'll be very surprised to see him moved now.

I could see St. Louis wanting Phaneuf along with Kulemin in return for Schwartz, which I don't think Toronto would be willing to do. No team trades their captain while they're in a playoff spot. Maybe Kulemin + for Berglund and Stewart?

leafs have to do a 2 for 1 type of deal. We are at our 23 man roster limit and Frattin and Lupul are about to come back into the line up.

Completely serious. He's had a wonderful 10 games or so this season as a leaf after some solid play in the AHL. His value his high right now, but I don't think he will sustain that.

No way.

Toronto needs Kulemin on the checking line. Stewart isn't appropriate for that type of role.

If the Leafs are going to pursue any forward on the Blues, it should probably be a guy like Steen. Get a line going with Steen-Grabo-Kulemin as your shutdown unit, while "stashing" another centre.

Kessel, JvR, Lupul, Frattin make up the other top 9 wingers when healthy. MacArthur likely heading out / the other way.
