If the Leafs are going to pursue any forward on the Blues, it should probably be a guy like Steen. Get a line going with Steen-Grabo-Kulemin as your shutdown unit, while "stashing" another centre.

Kessel, JvR, Lupul, Frattin make up the other top 9 wingers when healthy. MacArthur likely heading out / the other way.
Why on earth would we trade Steen for anything around MacArthuer?

This discussion has solidified the idea that the less a team is talked about in the HF trade forums, the more valuable their players are via trade.

Steen > Gardiner?

The valuation of Chris Stewart?

And this:

Jesus. I honestly hope someone doesn't bring up Kadri or we might have ourselves a gongshow.

With that being said, as a neutral observer, I've always pictured Patrick Berglund as a Leaf. I'm not sure why, but I always figured STL would have moved him for Schenn. Obviously Kulemin is nowhere near enough to acquire Berglund, but it's a start.

lol good lord regardless of Captain or not Schwartz is not even close to worth that much....

please tell me what Schwartz has proven?

he's got 3 points (1G,2A) in 16 games this year.

yes he's still young (21 this year) but I don't really see why Toronto would risk losing their #1 D-Man and one of their best two way forwards for a prospect that could be good or could end up being average.

it's not like Toronto is an old team trying to get young.

Not saying you would. I'm simply saying that's who I would pursue if I was talking to the Blues. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much incentive to make any sort of move.

I'd put Kessel and Kadri in that package for Schwartz.

No...we're looking for a good player to play with Phaneuf. Why would the Leafs trade him?

He likes it here and most likely realizes he'll have to take a pay cut to stay with the Leafs.

If St. Louis wants Komisarek, they can likely have him. Liles is distancing himself from the lineup as well, and MacArthur may become available if Lupul/Frattin return without anybody getting hurt.

However, there's no reason for the Leafs to clear a guy like Kulemin.
MacArthur is by and far the odd man out on our roster once we are healthy with Lupul and Frattin back in. It just makes no sense to trade Kulemin.

MacArthur + Komisarek for Stewart + 3rd OR something of that nature.

Why do the Blues want Kulemin? Don't they have enough players that are good defensively and kill PK's and chip in a bit offensively?

I wouldn't trade Kulemin+ a D from our roster for Schwartz. That hurts us badly right now and we have a tough 2 weeks ahead.

And no proposal from the Blues helps the Leafs.

I will double down from my first page post, and say that we aren't good trading partners.

fellow leaf fan here...

an upcoming ufa and an overpaid press box veteran who will be bought out after this year... for stewart?

leafs should be looking for a 4 for 2 kinda deal, we have way too many bodies

stl has depth, we arent good trading partners

I as a Blues fan agree 100%. Really for Kulemin all I could see us being able to offer is draft pics and that doesn't make any sense for Toronto. Right now with our injuries we really have no one we can trade on the roster currently outside of Russell or Redden.

Why would the Blues do this? We have no money to Pay Komi, and he isnt very good. Mac simply isnt near as valuable as Stewart.

Stewart is probably the guy being discussed, dont see the Blues trading Schwartz with McDonald possibly/probably gone after this season. Stewart we be due a raise if he continues his strong play, and the Blues have to pay other people before hm.

Kulemin, Gunnar for Stewart and a pick or something makes some sense for both teams. It sure seems like Armstrong is trying to make a move right now.

It's probably just a pick for a excess dman from the Leafs then. I doubt Kulemin is involved unless Stewart is coming back.
