The Girl Next Door (2004 film)

I freaking loved this movie. My favorite teen movie. Lot of funny stuff and a great plot. I was obsessed with Elisha Cuthbert after I first saw the movie 9 years ago (her pictures as my desktop background, screensaver). I even spent some nights in front of her house. Timothy Olyphant was awesome in this film. How do you guys rate this movie? By the way, I was just kidding about the spending nights in front of her house part. It's just too bad Emile Hirsch has been irrelevant since this movie. He's a good actor.

Lords of Dogtown, Alpha Dog, and Into The Wild. I wouldn't call him irrelevant.

Speed Racer did kill his hopes of ever getting another big-budget starring role though.

This and Deadwood is what made Timothy Olyphant awesome in my mind.

Expected this to be about the movie where the girl is tortured by her aunt.

It was all right. Just out of nostalgia it might be one of my "classics" but if you really think about it, it was kinda dumb.

The teen movies we get nowadays are so terrible compared to the earlier stuff I've noticed. Stuff like this, Easy A (better film), Superbad, etc....they're all good movies but the older ones, The Graduate, Rebel Without A Cause, Fast Times, The Outsiders, Ferris Bueller, The Breakfast Club, The Graduate, American Graffiti, Over The Edge, etc were so much better and don't get made anymore. They still have occasional ones like Rushmore but rare.

VERY underrated movie, I absolutely loved it! Of course I'm a little biased since I was a lot like the main characters in the movie as I didn't really come of age in high school life till around my final year.

IMO this is exactly what a 21st century version of a John Hughes movie would look like. It should be considered a teen classic.

It was good, but I found Elisha Cuthbert unconvincing as a porn actress.

I think I saw it. Looks vaguely familiar. Didn't leave a lasting impression.

My 4th favourite film of all time behind The Departed, Social Network and Fight Club.

Come at me.

Personally I thought it was merely an okay movie. What it had going for it, and why everyone of my friends saw it and remembers it, is that it turned Elisha Cuthbert into an instant teen sex symbol.

It came out when I was about 17 and everyone I knew had her at the top of their list because of it.

Here is a pretty scathing review from Ruthless Reviews that is kind of relevant, though I didn't hate it the way this guy did.

This isn't even close to Emiles best role but it's an entertaining movie forsure, Olyphant really kills it.

Olyphant was awesome in this movie. His character was such an ass throughout the movie, but for some reason you still really liked the guy. Then at the end when Emile Hirsch's character gets the best of him and he just smiles basically saying "yep, you got me" really sealed it for me. I've been an Olyphant fan ever since.

Juno and Napoleon Dynamite were both "teen" movies that certainly had greater meaning than just being funny or quirky. Juno's was more overt while Napoleon's was always there, but not always something that jumped out at you.

I did like The Girl Next Door. Like someone mentioned, that shot Elisha Cuthbert way up on the list.

Ugh Juno, what about The Virgin Suicides? That's a teen movie isn't it?

It's a good flick with likeable characters and fun performances. I have to say that the movie is a series of borrowed ideas and cliches though. Even the premise of the story was taken from Risky Business. The characters seemed to be, shall we say homages of John Hughes characters.

This doesn't make the movie bad, it's just not terribly original.

nowhere close to american pie. But Elisha saves it and makes it a memorable movie. Man she's so hot in this movie.

Cuthbert looked amazing in this flick, but i was disappointed to see that she never really looked that good again, imo.

as for the movie itself, it was alright.
