His now teammate Zack Kassian punched him out last season I believe.

Nice! This guy is a monster! 6'5!!! Fighter! Hitter! 2 goals in 7 games (that's roughly 25 in a full season - not too bad for our fourth line)!! I've been saying for a couple years the Canucks need to get this guy!!

Man I love this team!

Glad this goon is out west. He's at least serviceable, I'll give him that much.

Sort of a "very good 4th liner" type guy.
Not sure, depends on the amount of ice time. If he's only used as a 4th liner playing 5 minutes a game, no. He has the ability, if with the proper coach.

I like it. Liked Volpatti, but Volpatti was what he was. He doesn't have the hands/hockey sense to be better. But I wish him the absolute best of luck and Caps fans will like him.

But Sestito has a higher upside. Similar to Dale Weiss. I like how Gillis seems to be using the waiver wire to acquire/cultivate our own (poor man's) Shawn Thornton. I say this because Weiss and Sestito are both fighters who can play a little bit and may develop to be better than they are.

Hard not to see Sestito as somewhat of an up grade on Volpatti.

I liked the hustle Volpatti showed and the way he could go the body. Volpatti was at his best when he would just recklessly run around nailing people. Yet there was so little upside. He couldn't score, play in important defensive situations or really take on the heavyweights. Had practically no ability to carry the puck.

I think people assumed that he would develop more because he was recent to the League. Fact was that he spent a long time in college and started late and, at 27, he probably was pretty much what he was going to be. More than that he was injured a lot.

Sestito has gone through the grind of Junior and American League hockey and, at 25, is ahead of Volpatti in development. He plays around the net more effectively than Volpatti (who is pretty hopeless there) and knows the defensive side of the game. Also Sestito has more size.

Overall, a couple of minor transactions but, on the face of it, I would say the Canucks have slightly improved themselves.

I really like this move, a solid 4th liner who brings size and has atleast the willingness to stand up for teammates.

We already have another punching bag in Weise, so having a bad fighter who plays that role is nothing we aren't used to.

I also like the fact he is a good skater and is physical. Can't wait to see him play tommorow.

Alright well with that said I guess it is time for us to give up on any hope of him becoming that valuable of a 4th liner.

Solid move by Vancouver. Kinda disappointed we waived Sestito. He hits like a train, skates excellently for his size, and has sneaky good hands if he has the chance to puck handle. According to a Flyers beat writer, both MTL and CHI tried to snag him as well.

Oh Man!!! That's all Vancouver needed was a guy like Sestito on CHI's roster. I can't express enough how choked that would have made me to know this guy would be flying around on CHI's 4th line trying to line up one of the Sedin's. I'm even more happy we got him now.

Tom Sestito can actually score goals. 42 in his last year at Plymouth. He has some offensive upside that is way over shadowed by his fighting. Needs a chance to show it.

Nice pick up by Vancouver!

I'm a lifetime Flyers fan, and I am pissed off to see Sestito go. He's a tough forward. He can grind it out in the corners and punish the opposing players with good hits. He makes some mistakes at times by being a bit too aggressive, ( that's why Lavy sent him down...another reason why I want the Flyers to dump Lavy).
He can actually score too.
Good for Tom, I'm sure he'll do well in Vancouver!

Agreed, really thought he did his job well. But you gotta admit, his stickhandeling ability - horrid.

One of these things is not like the others.

And I guess exchanging Volpatti for Sestito is a decent move. Bigger, younger, tougher, slightly better actual hockey player, not bad.

It's still like fixing the ashtray cover on a car with a leaking head gasket and a wonky transmission, but in and of itself, decent move.

I wish we hadn't lost Volpatti, but I do like Sestito's game. He's an adequate replacement, big guy too, we need that.
