all I know about 2K is that their NHL series flopped, although, their PS2 NHL games were better than EA's (when I didn't have a PS3).
I *read* that someone said 2K would be better because they put a lot of attention to detail, but I don't know much else. We'll see, I guess...
2K's NHL series, really up to 2K9, and this is just my opinion, was miles and miles ahead of EA's NHL series.
But I don't know what happened, 2K9 came out and it was just garbage compared to EA's release that year. And the people who were closest to me know that I exclusively played the NHL 2K series from 2K3-2K8
And ALL of 2K's "2K5" releases were top-notch while carrying a 19.99 price tag.
I think that this could be good for WWE going forward. 2K releases a hell of an NBA game every year, to the point that EA has stopped their Live franchise for now, if 2K can do the same with WWE, then we could have some nice games on our hands.

They fired Kush Games after 2K8 (which explains why there were no roster updates after New Year for it), built a new engine from the ground up but at the same time had funding cut until pretty much everything focused on NBA and MLB. Well they have Top Spin series too which isn't that bad (based on demos). All the people from the NFL 2K series went to work on the NBA series after they stopped making american football games and it shows. Maybe they'll do a another hockey game on the next gen... Don't forget, they (2K/Take Two) have a money making machine coming out this Spring...
2K was supposed to be dropping Baseball altogether this year and shocked everyone by announcing they're giving it one last shot like less than a month ago outta nowhere. 2K Baseball games were great when it was World Series Baseball then once they dropped that moniker it become meh for a few years (MVP was better) and then downright awful the last 4 or 5 years and I bought Ps3 just for The Show.
Since the inception on Dreamcast, through the PS2, and up until next gen the 2k sports games were all amazing and the best ones out there. NBA is the only one that stood the test of time and is still great to this day.
NFL never had a shot on next gen cause EA bought the license, but 2K5 was one of the best games (not just sports games) I've ever played and still play it to this day.
NHL 2K6 wasn't bad but 2K7 onward kinda blew and that coupled with EA NHL adding Be A Pro in 09 crushed them.
Moral of the story? Be hopeful we get a NBA 2K quality WWE game.
Can someone explain how the hell Universe mode works? There seems to be no cut scenes or anything.
I can't recall the last WWE game I seriously played, but it was like at least 10-12 years ago and I recall have the "season" or "career" mode be pretty cool with stories etc.
I don't get how this works now...I remember in the old game when you simmed a match they'd do a cut scene...
Yeah...which is kind of the point of that kind of mode I would think. If I just wanted to wrestle endless matches with no real story I can do exhibition...
You unlock cutscenes through attitude era apparently. I can't play this game anymore. I put it in and was on the menu screen wondering what to do and I got nothing.
I may just fork over money, buy a used PS2 and find Here Comes The Pain somewhere.
Did anybody play this? I've read some good and some terrible reviews (lots of glitches, bad mode design and sound design) and I'd like to see what an average gamer thinks.
I haven't watched WWE or played a WWE game in about a decade. Curious what annual Smackdown players think.
Is this games story mode any better than WWE 12? Can I just play, never edit the card, get storylines and **** that are interesting and I can control? Or are they very static, straight line storylines?
2K is also getting their design team to help work on it which I think is called Visual Concepts. I'm optimistic that they will make a good game. WWE 13 wasn't that bad but things just need some work. Attitude Era mode was a good addition but it had no replay value at all. I finished it about 4 days after I got the game and haven't touched it since. I hope they have a story mode like they used to have in older games where you could take any superstar you want including CAWs and play through the story mode. Universe mode still needs quite a bit of work but it's a good idea. I wouldn't mind having a GM mode either. Online needs lots of improvements. Reversals are really delayed, servers are crap, etc. There's also tons of bugs and glitches that need to be fixed. It's a shame they don't put out patches for this game to fix things.
There's seriously no replay value to WWE 13 at all. Universe is flawed, AE mode is a one-time play and the matches get boring after a while themselves. I traded in WWE 13 for NHL 13.
