Tomas Surovy

He's obviously not in Pittsburgh's plans anymore. Is he going back overseas? Does anybody in the NHL want him?

I'd like him on the Bruins as a depth player.

He's low risk/high reward. A lot of talent that was never tapped in Pittsburgh. Plus we already have a bunch of Slovaks, so he'd fit in in the locker room.

I think I read somewhere that he is heading back to Europe, but if its true I'm sure somebody else will come along and post a link. I really doubt he signs a 1-way deal with anybody. I wouldn't mind him back in Pittsburgh on a 2-way deal or a 1 year 1-way deal at most, but I don't see any value beyond that.

If he was returning to Pittsburgh, he would have received a qualifying offer.

Low risk/high reward is a good way to look at Surovy, he shows flashes of NHL ability with Pittsburgh and with our lack of wingers that can even occassionally finish, I don't see the rationale of not qualifying him...teams that lack depth could get a 10-20 goal player, or nothing...either way, it's not like they had to give up anything for him...RS...

Nah Shero wants two way deals, which is why he didnt offer a QO.
He can still be back in Pittsburgh if he signs a 2 way deal (doubtful).

Surovy has a wicked shot but needs to use it more.

At times last year, (maybe a period or 2) he played like a man possessed. I liked him (for his potential), but his inconsistancy makes this a "Meh" loss.

Maybe a change of scenery would do him some good.

I've always liked Surovy but his scoring has been too streaky. When he is on, he is deadly and his game rounded out a bit last season to where he could play on the 3rd line without hurting his team much. There was a stretch in December/January where he was playing consistently with Sidney Crosby and scoring. He would make a nice addition for a team in need of forward depth. I could see him in a Bruins jersey.

Which is really to bad. They gave up on him FAR to early ( trend with the Pens the last couple years IMO). You put him with two, established skill guys and you just watch him develop and learn and turn into the sniper that he couldnt be in Pitt. He was asked to do to much, to soon because they had noone to help him.
He could honestly benefit a team with Vets who could use and infusion of youth IMO.

Not if they wanted to give him a lower salary or a 2 way deal.
Still, I think him, Koltsov and Hilbrt should have been kept. Hilbert scored a point per game in his time here and even if he wasnt in our long term plans, we would have been a decent option fo a stop gap guy. Ditto for Surovy and Koltsov is a good fourth line player/energy/PKer. With all the emphasis on speed in the new NHL, to let KK go baffled me, even if he has hands of stone. That speed could be used so many other places!

I would like to point out that only Hilbert has signed with anyone, so it looks like Surovy and Koltsov aren't exactly in high demand.

At the same time though, lesser guys that we let go have signed elsewhere...Matt Hussey, Krys Kolanos, and Matt Murley, in addition to Andy Hilbert, have all signed elsewhere (winning teams too, Murley with Colorado, and the other two in Detroit...). I mean, maybe no one is talking to them, maybe they don't want to be in the NHL, who knows...I just wish they would come back to Pittsburgh, we don't have any players...
