Canadiens Top 20 Prospects, By the Fans

Its a long way from the start of the season, so lets to a poll of the top 20 Montreal prospects. Each poll will be open for 2 days, but i may start the next one sooner if there is a clear cut winner of one poll.

I will use HF rules for prospects, however I am going to take one liberty in that Perez, Plekanec and Garth Murray are basically graduated, though not officially yet.

I'm thinking Kostitsyn followed by Latendresse, Chipchura, Price and Fischer

I would go with Kostitsyn, although it defiantely is fairly close between 3-4 guys imo.

as much as I think AK will make it big and tear up the league,

right now I think Latendresse takes the cake,

I bet a lot of people didn't want to vote for him because a lot of people think we are overating him

but watching the camp last year, Latendresse was absolutely dominant and AK though had lotsa fancy moves, looked lost

based on that and the fact i havent seen either of them recently...

i vote latendresse

It's definitely AK, then probably Price, even if he's a goalie and it's really hard to predict if a goalie would be great or not this early.

Lats is probably next, but out of all the top 5 prospects, I think he has the bigggest possibility to bust because of the pressure everybody (french media....) is putting on him to become a great player.

Pleks and Perezhogin should not be considered prospects by HF standards since they both played over 65 games in the NHL. Don't know why they are still listed on the Habs page but they should be considered graduated. Murray has 56 games under his belt, so by HF he's still a prospect, but I personally don't consider him one.

Danis at 25 and Cote at 24 are becoming too old to be considered prospects. I can see why some keep them as prospects, just as I can see why others wouldn't consider them prospect. When you think of it, Price is still 18, doesn't turn 19 till next month, so he's 6+ years younger, it's hard to factor that in when you look at all the extra development time Danis has had over Price.

Just like last year, I'll be the oddball with the vote for Chipchura right up until the point where he finally gets his due from the rest of the mob around #5.

Chipchura for me too. Even if almost nobody feels it's waranted. And maybe it's not based strickly on upside. I just like him a lot and think he's the most underrated Habs prospect.

Unless there are multiple objections I think we can all live with Montreal's rules on this one??? Agree, Disagree??

When I made my personnal top10, I reluctantly put Price on top, cause the impact of a nbr 1 goalie with a high ceiling COULD be huge !!! But I think my number 1 is Lats, cause of what he showed in camp last year + the very elogious reports from scrimmage day !!

I can't believe AK is still your number one. It's been a while already and we're still waiting for the big breakthrough...

Lats showed a lot at camp and dominated the development camp last week, but Andrei is further along in his development I believe and does possess more skill. Also, he's played a regular season NHL game and figured prominently in Gainey's remarks in the end-of-season press conference. Gainey basically said Kostitsyn is the only rookie he expects to make the team. He could have been challenging the other prospects though. But now with the Johnson/Sammy trades, doesn't look like there is any room for Kosty at the present time either.

I still put him at #1.

From what I saw of Price, he has a long way to go. Chipchura is maybe a year away from a bottom 6 role, I don't think he's a second line player myself.

In fact, I'd have D'Agostino ahead of half on the list in the poll.

I think Price is our #1 prospect. So much size, such good puckhandling skills, such good technique... he will be a monster in goal for years to come.

I would say AK. He seems like the most NHL ready and he has tons of talent and so much potential.

Halak is the most obvious choice here, pretty underrated by fans. Kostitsyn close 2nd.

Montreal's top prospect is Sidney Crosby, he will be ready to join us in 2012.
