I think that ship has sailed. He doesn't have awful hands though, but I doubt we see him rack up points. He will mots likely be reliable offensively and defensively though.

I just beg that he doesn't do anything stupid. He might hit like a train, but we don't need him suspended, or sending us to numerous PK's (Volpatti was very disciplined, only 4 minor penalties this season)

Also Kassian is too good to be in the bottom six, he needs to play with good players and get lots of minutes. What we want is a guy on every line who's willing to throw down or at least make guys keep their heads up. Sestito and Kassian are the obvious candidates, but there's not much else there. Put Sestito or Weise up on the third line and have Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen be the 2nd, that's as close as you're gonna get to ideal.

I agree with this. But there is no point in even discussing it because our coach lacks common sense.

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Higgins - Lapierre - Burrows
Sestito - Ebbett - Weise

This. As dismissive as I was about Volpatti to start, he's outplayed Weise by quite a bit, and has been one of the more effective crash-and-bang 4th liner experiments we've had in recent memory.

I don't think he has much of a future beyond staying at that level, and I would have bumped him off the minute Pinizotto became healthy, but still.

Interesting point was Gillis basically said "When Volpatti was claimed we wanted to replace that toughness quickly" (paraphrasing) and AV really didn't have any knowledge on him.

Likely not a guy they scouted/had a lot of interest in.
Even after we claimed Weise, Gillis mentioned he was a player they had inquired about beforehand.

Enough speed but few people with good hands after the Sedins. Down the right side I expect very few goals. Hoping Jensen comes over and provides that. Sorry to say, this team could use Hodgson in a big way.

Sad to see Sestito go, but glad to see him out west where he can't do that much damage to the Flyers. As others have said, he's a weapon on the forecheck because of his size.

The worst I can say about the guy, and this is no personal attack because I really liked him in Philadelphia, is how he struggles to keep pace with the speed of the NHL. I feel like he's forechecking a lot because he rarely has the puck on the stick. He's got good hands, so there's no reason for him not to be more effective than what he is, but for whatever reason you'll find him running around a lot rather than trying to play the game.

Gillis said they are trying Raymond in the middle tonight.

Sedin - Sedin - Burrows
Higgins - Raymond - Hansen
Booth - Lapierre - Kassian
Sestito - Schroeder - Weise

These are the lines at practice Friday, should be lineup against L.A. Saturday.

This is flat out wrong. And the post you quoted is flat out wrong, many posters were speaking to Volpatti's weaknesses all season (way before we ever put him on waivers).

People who questioned it also had well reasoned stances and a treack record of intelligent posts.

Lots of pure whining now.

There is a reason Weise has considerably more minutes than Vilpatti this season (he can actually play the game).

I liked Volpatti too, just not enoug to shed tears over. He has no upside beyond what he was and is/was easily replaced on waivers.

Flat out the good of volpatti didn't outweigh his limitations.

Weird. Why would they bump up Lappy? Guy has been under performing game in and game out.

Eww do not like that at all. Why the hell would they break up the Raymond-Schroeder-Hansen line?

Why let Matt Kassian pass through waivers to claim Sestito?

maybe because they felt that Sestito has much more upside and can contribute in more ways than Kassian?

Sestito has outscored Kassian at every level of hockey. He's scored at a better pace at the NHL level then Kassian has at the WHL level.

They are basically the same size.. have gotten pretty comparable PIM numbers throughout their careers at every level, but there's a massive difference in overall production in every level. That probably has Canucks scouts and management thinking that there's more upside with Sestito while not losing much, if anything, on the physical impact level of a 6-8 min/night 4th line forward.

I personally don't like it much either, but apparently that's the way Canucks will start the game. If I was to make the lines it would be like this:

Sedin - Sedin - Kassian
Booth - Burrows - Higgins
Raymond - Schroeder - Hansen
Sestito - Lapierre - Weise

But I'm not the coach and AV knows what is going with his players a lot better than we do. So I trust their decisions more than my suggestions.
