If he plays, tonight will be Hossa's 999th NHL regular season game, which means he will play his 1000th game on the road in Detroit on Sunday. The NHLPA will present him with a silver stick at a ceremony before the game to mark the milestone.
I know that some players have requested to be healthy scratches so that they will play their 1000th at home, but I don't know if Hossa is inclined to do that. It's a ceremony that I would really love to see for Hoss in the United Center rather than the Joe, which is enemy territory and quite frankly is not worthy for such an honor, especially since they like to boo Hossa there.
It makes me wonder if he is contemplating taking the game off tonight, since it will be against an injured, bottom-dwelling team that the Hawks should be able to beat with half their roster in the press box. It would mean a lot to the fans in Chicago to be able to see a future Hall of Fame player like Hossa get his silver stick on home ice.
