Yes, the guy whose nickname is "The Pioneer of modern age basketball" surely isnt one of the best ever who played the game.
One of the best ever? Yes. Top 10, no.
Man, look at these lists, Mikan cannot be taken over the likes of Chamberlain, Robertson, Shaq, Kobe and not even Duncan because he dominated basketball in the 50s. All these players have dominated their position and this sport in a period where the competition was/is much MUCH higher.

Not understanding the Tim Duncan love. Hall of Fame player, absolutely. But not top 10 of all time. Hell, i'd even put Scottie Pippen ahead of him. It is nice seeing the Jerry West noms and nobody putting Jordan anywhere other than 1st where he undoubtedly belongs.

Agree with the poster above me, Tim Duncan doesn't really belong to all-time top 10 list.

My own top 10:

1. Michael Jordan
2. Wilt Chamberlain
3. Larry Bird
4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
5. Hakeem Olajuwon
6. Bill Russell
7. Magic Johnson
8. Jerry West
9. Shaquille O'Neal
10. John Stockton

HM: LeBron, Dr. J, Karl Malone, Kobe, Oscar Robertson

Not yet but he will be on the top 10 imo with another championship and mvp (this years mvp looks already quite certain)

Agreed, at the end of his career I'd be surprised if he wasn't widely regarded as top 10 all-time, maybe even top 5....

John Stockton over Oscar Robertson? That is insane.

13.1 PPG, 10.5 AST/G, 2.7 RB/G

over

25.7 PPG, 9.5 AST/G, 7.5 RB/G?

The guy averaged 30+ PPG in 6 seasons, and 10+ RB/G in 5 seasons (as a guard no less). Only player to average a triple-double over the course of a season. Plus the Championship ring, which Stockton does not have.

Robertson is criminally underrated. He's a Top 5 player all-time.

Maravich? He's a top 100 player, but not near the top 10.

John Stockton is one of my all time favorite players, so that might be the reason why he's at the 10th place over Robertson...

I know hes not a top-10 player but where would Allen Iverson rank? Top-20? 25?

Why not? 5x champion, 10x 1st team all-NBA, 9x 1st team all defensive, 1x MVP, 15x all star, 2x scoring champion, currently 5th in career scoring and will probably retire top 3.

How do Bill Walton and Pistol Pete come close to touching that?

West, Duncan, Baylor and Moses are all really close. Looking at these lists I am reminded of how overrated Kobe Bryant is. Borderline top 25 player for me.
I think this is the closest ranking for me. Magic, Bird, Robertson could go in any order 4-6 but Id have Robertson, Bird and Magic in that group. Magic imo is hugely over rated among those 3 imo b/c of simply playing in the LA market with the Lakers.

If he can continue the level of play that he's shown the past year and pick up at least 2-3 more championships, there won't be no question about it.

A lot of time left, but he's playing some of the greatest ball that I've ever witnessed. And I don't see him slowing down any time soon. We're watching greatness right now. Only time will tell how far he climbs the list.

i'm with bill on the top six:

1. MJ
2. russell
3. kareem
4. magic
5. bird
6. wilt

after that, it gets tougher, but i go:

7. oscar
8. duncan

then it could be a lot of guys gunning for the top ten. without too much thought, i'd go:

9. kobe
10. hakeem
11. west
12. moses
13. shaq

the order of those last five guys could go in any number of combinations, but i'm pretty certain that hakeem comes before moses, duncan ahead of kobe, shaq behind both duncan and kobe.

west is the hard one; has kobe passed him? does hakeem really belong in front of him? does kobe belong in front of hakeem? but man i loved hakeem; the guy could do everything. peak vs. peak, i'd take him over duncan.

Kobe Bryant must be the most overrated player in any sport ever. *takes 50 shots* *misses 35* *gets player of the game and ESPN hype*.

Lebron should be mentioned.

Another way of looking at it is like this. If you were gonna start a team with any player ever in the NBA, who woul you pick and in what order. Lebron would definetley be picked top 10.

He can't be in that category yet. He still needs to accomplish more to be considered greater than so many nba Legends
