For about 24 hrs this place was so dead you could here the crickets chirping, (even now in the tail of winter). I go to my skate, do some errands and I come back to a slew of roaring haughty pontifications....gawd I love this place!
Thanks for making my pick. Baltimore selects at Pick 464 Left Winger JP Parise
Parise completes a defensive 3rd line for the Blades who's players may chip in offensively late in games. Parise wasn't the best scorer but he gave it his all every game.
Had my eye on him, very underrated. Amazingly consistent, he gave it all in every shift but only missed 17 games in a 10 year stretch. You really don't hear too much about him but he could very easily fit on any 3rd line in today's current NHL. He's the kind of guy that you wish had won a Cup.
Again factor in that Abel played with Gordie howe and Ted Lindsay.
I ask:
Offensively is a guy like Sid Abel that far ahead of Henrik Sedin?
Well, you're right that Abel's offensive production falls off a good deal from his 4th to 5th best seasons, and a good chunk of his offensive prime came in the weak 1940's, so the VsX numbers may overrate him somewhat. In terms of overall offensive production, Sedin and Abel are fairly close, yes. But Abel is generally drafted as a left wing in the ATD, and they are judged on a completely different scale. He also has some defensive value and was a tough, aggressive player on the boards and in the forecheck who was generally very good without the puck, none of which describes Henrik Sedin. I don't see much point in comparison, to be honest.
I like Sedin, though, and I like that you took him higher than last year because he is deserving. People who say you would be "wasting" Charlie Conacher's talent by putting him on a line with Sedin seem to be forgetting that Sedin is a better offensive player than Joe Primeau was.
I have made a trade with nik jr for the pick after Bubba...I don't know what happened to bluesfan94 with his list. Is there anyone else who's going to be around for a while that I can also send my list to?

Unfortunately, the section of the book on Lester Patrick and most of the section on Dick Irvin are unavailable on google books, but I think most of the Hap Day section is there.

Thanks for the info! I think Hap Day is a great fit for my team. We are definitely a defense first team, which is the style Day coaches, but the other thing I like about him is that he will allow certain players to play a more offensive style as long as he knows his teammates will cover for him, which is illustrated by how he handled guys like Babe Pratt and Max Bentley. With Phil Housley and to a lesser extent Art Duncan on my squad, I needed a guy like that.
no hesitation here, we're both online but we both decided on this one as our consensus pick here a while back:
With our 14th selection, the 472nd overall in this year All-Time Draft, les Nordiques de Québec are extremely satisfy to select, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, C/LW Fred Stanfield
''We are extremely happy and surprise to select a player of this quality this late in the draft. A very solid playmaker, Stanfield was a good mucker, while being a gritty forward. A physical centre, Fred is also versatile enough to play on the left side if necessary. A very constant player who barely miss any games during his prime, he was a fine skater and one of the hardest worker on his team. A reputation of being solid at the face-off circle, he wouldn't hurt you on the defensive side on the game either. We are ecstatic to add such a solid all-around performer this late in the draft. He will be feeding passes to Alf Smith & Gordie Drillon on our third line.''

To be honest, I'm not sure if the new information TDMM provided about Day is helpful to his value here. The business about his training camps resembling prison camps is pretty disturbing. Your team is mostly made up of good citizens, but Housley and especially Brewer stick out as potential problem spots under this kind of coaching. Now, I think Brewer's conflicts with Leafs coaching are somewhat overblown, but he was definitely a free spirit who chafed somewhat under the dictatorial system in place in Toronto when he played there. It seems like you may have swapped one dictator for another.
