Question is, what year would he actually come up and play in the NHL, even as a back up?

IMO at the earliest he's 3 years away.

The problem is, Bryz still has 4 years left on the contract when he would show up at the earliest.

Hopefully we won't have to worry about his contract after this year.

Well it looks like he's going to be the starter for London going into the playoffs. If London goes on a run and he plays well I can see him getting a contract offer from the Flyers this summer.

I would hope they wouldn't start him right away at the NHL levle. He could backup Bryz for a couple a years. After that Bryz might head home to Russia or retire.

Something akin to 1 more year with London, 1 year with the Phantoms, then a serious consideration to challenge for a spot on the Flyers?

My thinking on young goalies, unless they are a clear cut blue-chip prospect, they are all a crap shoot (and even the aforementioend clear cut guys are risky). You can't depend or plan on anything from them until they are in the NHL. Stolarz could dominate this and next year, then never be anything. He could kill it in the AHL then be a chump in the NHL (see: Leighton, Michael). He could suck for the next three years, then go nuts and win the Calder in the NHL.

Well that didn't take long. Looks like Stolarz got beat on the first shot of the game 2:33 in. Sarault got an assist so he's tied with Cousins in points now.

Sarault scores shorthanded against Stolarz. He's ahead of Cousins in points by 1 now. 2-1 Sarnia after one. Stolarz has 8 saves on 10 shots.

Sarault scored his second of the game during the 2nd period for his 3rd point of the night. He's now at 100. Trocheck has a 4 point night so he's up to 97 points. Just 1 behind Cousins.

London wins 4-3 in a shootout even though Sarault had 3 points. Stolarz made 24 saves on 27 shots and stopped 3 of the 4 shooters in the shootout.

So, he's not Flyers material.

I've been watching some of the Phantom games of late and was struck by a few things I'd like to pass along.

Wellwood has taken a step back. In the offseason we didn't even consider this guy a prospect anymore because he was so much of a "lock". Not only did mcginn and Harry z pass him by but I'd say I was far more impressed with a number of the Phantoms then Wellwood. Even Bordson who barely earned a AhL deal has been better.
Akeson may have defensive issues but he is essentially the entire offense down there. Noebels Sim and Laliberte help but man this team just can't seem to generate offense if akeson isn't on the ice.
IMO the guy who has made the biggest improvement from the start of the season till now is Konan. No he isn't NHL material by any stretch just yet but he has been quite impressive considering he couldn't make the team out of camp.

Thanks for the summary. Sounds like it wouldn't hurt to have Cousins and Laughton (if he's not traded by then) in the Phantoms roster next season.

Laughton will be too young for the Phantoms next season (correct me if I'm wrong). He's still 18.

Both players have a reasonable shot of making the Flyers next season. Honestly, they are the reason why I could see the Flyers trying to move another forward for an offensive D-man or potentially 2 forwards for a top flight scorer.

Thanks for the write up. I was watching a good amount of Phantoms during the lockout and Konan was someone who I thought looked pretty good in limited action. Hopefully he will keep progressing.

Spartak is out of the contention in the KHL's "Cup of Hope", as they were ousted by Dinamo Minsk a couple of days ago. I don't know how Vasilyev did, but he played heavy minutes throughout the series (two games over 23 minutes), so that's a good sign.
