Seriously, Desharnais is paid like a fourth line player and he is posting points like a second line center. I don't understand all the hate toward him.

Bingo.

Don't worry -- if DD asks for 4.5 millions or something like that, I'm the first guy who want to drive him out of town.

But at 850K?

Easy to understand. Look at his size, his status as a non draftee, and his birth certificate. All the great ingredients to bash someone on this board.

And when this thread is too quiet, you can just "blame it on Bouillon" in the Bouillon thread.

Too bad that Darche is gone, the same usual suspects have lost one safe haven to spread their hate.

paid like a 4th line, but he'll hurt the team in the long run with his defensive brain cramps. I rather pay 1 million for a guy who can back check.

Most of DD's points came from Pac's goals. When Pac didn't produce (early this season) DD had a slow start. DD is a leecher, that's all he is!!!

Eller pleks and galchy are better and bring more to the table
I think he is showcased for a deal a total liability on faceoffs and defensively
You are nuts to extend this guy , a 50 point soft player
What more does eller have to get some pp time

Maybe you should have a chat with PaxPac who repeated frequently taht DD is the best center with whom he played so far in his carreer.

I have more faith in MaxPac opinions than yours, for sure.

Anyway, if the Habs would not had lost in OT yesterday, they would had lost it in SO.

No one to score goals in OS and no one to stop pucks neither.
So no arguments, then. Okay.

How many centers did MaxPac play with? Gomez, Desharnais, Maxwell? Fair point.

Desharnais 22
Pacioretty 21
Plekanec 20
Gionta 19
Gallagher 17
Bourque 17
Prust 15
Galchenyuk 14
Eller 12
Moen 5
Armstrong 5
White 4

Love is blindness
Now analyzed it.....

yep 22 goals scored.....minus 9 on the PP....it's 13 goals scored at 5 on 5.
This is DD's upside....not yet enough.

Habs scored 42 goals at 5 on 5....DD was on the ice for 13 of them (31%)
While being on the ice for 15 out of 24 goals allowed (62.5%)

Upside
Downside

What are arguments?

I watch the games, I know what I see; the question is, do you? Stats are utterly useless unless they support my point.

The obvious number-crunching who-doesn't-factor-in-PDO-by-the-usual-suspect.

Yep... That was TOTALLY unpredictable.

I don't think anyone mentioned any of those things, except maybe his size (which is a legitimate concern for a centerman)

Way to bring illogical points to a debate that doesn't need them. Well done.

Seriously, I nearly wish DD to be traded and to play great somewhere else.

Welcome to Montreal : The only place where underpaid local players get bashed.

again, terrific offensively - especially when he plays with north south shooters but easily over-matched along the boards and terrible defensively. we saw the best and worst of him last night. Habs are going to have to make a decision if they can live with that lack of two-way game + size in a top 2 center.

Still, he's an underpaid player who produces points.

He produces points and provides a francophone media presence. Brownie points for that. We need more guys like him, to provide PR to keep the French media satisfied.

Except for the one guy saying he's useless (which is stupid, and easily ignored IMO) I don't think anyone is bashing him without substance. I have seen plenty of stats to support most arguments. I believe that's called criticism, and it seems to be backed up fairly often.

Discussing the ups and downs of a player /= bashing.

My only knock on DD is his size...
He competes hard and puts on second line cente points.
Cap hit is fantastic

Now the problem is Plekanec already fills this role as a second line C
Eller is a very effective third line centre and Galchenyuk is the futuire number 1 as of next year in my mind.

Where does this leave Desharnais, he can't play as the number 3 or 4 C.
Montreal needs to sign and trade Desharnais for some assetts not because he's not any good but because Montreal already has the top three centres filled in Galchenyuk, Plekanec and Eller.

Trade Desharnais for a first in this years draft or move up in the draft by trading Desharnais and Montreal's 1st...agin not because I don;t like but because I prefer Galchenyuk as the number 1 Plekanec as the number and Eller as Montrea'ls number three.

Pacioretty Galchenyuk Gallagher
Bourque Plekanec Ryder

Plekanec is our best defensive forward and he gets destroyed when he misses as assignment. Remember the first Bruins game?

I don't blame Desharnais for the goal, but he hardly moved there and he should not be absolved from criticism.

And yes, he is generally a below average player away from the offensive zone. That doesn't mean he doesn't have his uses - look at Ryder for another example of that, but it's something to consider going forward - and hopefully a part of his contract negotiations.

This is not about language, don't make this a political debate.

When a poster's sole reason for existence on theses boards to cherry-pick stats in order to make a player worst than he is, that's called disguised bashing.
