It's a well known fact Edmonton will not be trading their 1st and they have more of a need for a big physical C then a LW. Like JVR but not at the price the Leafs would be asking.

What I cannot understand, why would the OP think the Leafs would want to trade him.

Read carefully. We said we'll add.

There is no one, not one player we'll trade JVR to Edmonton for unless one of Hall, Eberle, RNH aren't coming back.

We'll add but nothing else to see beyond that.

I think they meant to say they wouldn't deal JVR unless RNH was coming back.
And they were also willing to add on top of it.

I would personally give up JVR and Gardiner for Nuge.

JVR for EDM 1st this year is an absolute joke of an offer. Easy pass from Toronto.

My apologies my mistake, but RNH isn't going anywhere and is crazy to believe that the Leafs would have anything to entice the Oilers to trade him.

Well I mean JvR has 16 points in 22 games and RNH only has 7 in 19...

So bad and I am an Oilers fan, sorry about this. Think one of our top players, plus JVR won't move for picks and prospects as they are competing now. I wanted EDM to pick up JVR when he was in PHI.

Why would the Leafs trade JVR a former 2nd overall pick who has finally shown a player he is for draft pick which currently stands 9th overall which could possibly be out of the top 5 anyway. Leafs are looking to make the playoffs, If they do trade JVR it will be for an impact roster player not a draft pick which will take another 3-5 years to develop and have an impact.

I would be ok with moving Eberle for JVR but EDM would want a bit more back. I just don't see why TO would trade JVR at this point as he is a big body winger. You have to jump on these players when they are down on their team like JVR was in PHI. TO won that trade.

I'd trade JvR+ for Eberle depending on the +.

I think JvR will be a great player for us and I'm glad we don't have to worry about his contract for another 4-5 years. 4.25M with the cap going down is a good deal for a guy like JvR.

Eberle has a ton of talent, I think him and Kadri together would be dynamite.

JvR uses his size a lot...he tries to crash the net whenever he's got the puck, and he uses his body to shield the puck along the net. He's not a prototypical PWF that hits players through the wall but outside of hitting he does everything that PWF's are known for.

If you're looking for a big center to compliment RNH, I think a guy like Couturier would be great for the Oilers.

We would want something the Oilers are not willing to give up. We don't need Hemsky.

Zero reason to trade him.

Oilers don't do that though.

I'd trade JvR+ for any of the young Oiler forwards.

I think they should just use their 1st round pick to draft a forward with size, because JvR is finally getting a chance so we aren't going to trade him for picks or players that are going to be UFA's soon.

JvR+ for one of the Oiler forwards is the only deal that makes sense from a Leaf POV.

Young player for another young player.

Its taken from losing Doug Weight till now to find a potential first line center. For those who dont know Edmonton's history thats 2001 till 2012. I dont wanna wait 11 years again, RNH aint going anywhere even for overpayment

I think hlaverty06 has it right. They won't move any of those guys and commonly ask for another teams key piece.

I really like what JVR has to offer and he's on a good solid contract as it is. I wouldn't move him for anything outside of RNH, Eberle or Yakapov.

I understand that Leafs would have to add but if they aren't getting a key piece back then why bother?

This post is perfect. Edmonton would not want to pay the Leafs asking price and Toronto would not want to trade him in the first place. It would be like the Leafs going for Eberle or RNH...the Leafs will not want to pay the asking price and the Oilers would not want move their players either.

Up until recently, JvR was little more than a 3rd-liner. But with Lupul and Frattin out, JvR has been given the opportunity to play on the Leafs' 1st line and providing him with more quality chances to score at even strength and on the power-play. Since his ascension to the top line, he's taken full advantage of his good fortune.

The question remains: what happens to JvR when both Lupul and Frattin return to the Leafs' line-up? I guess we'll see what happens soon enough.

Again, Edmonton's 1st in this summer's draft is a good offer for JvR, but it's not one that most Leaf fans here would accept.
We would take a young 23 year old out of the lineup who is starting to deliver on his potential so we could go back to the draft and hope that in 5-6 years we have a JVR type breakout?
