In all honesty though this weather system is nothing Calgary hasn't seen before. A strong north ->south wind with snow, blowing snow / drifting snow, and poor visibility.

Exactly. He's been solid, and a lot more consistent than his first two years - but I would still expect some more production out of Ballie.

Someone at Calgarypuck reporting the game is cancelled. He's asking for a mod so that he can confirm his source for them.

Couldn't they just push it back to 8 PM start Mountain time?

It's a short flight so there's still plenty of time for things to get sorted out.

It's not the length of the flight or even the runway light issues. Flights are getting diverted to Edmonton right now.

'Right now' being the key word. Canucks flight wasn't even supposed to leave until 1pm and things could get sorted out between now and then.

(Could always fly to Edmonton and then bus to Calgary... )

That's a 3 hour bus ride. Better option would be to land at one of the other airports near Calgary.

I always wondered about the Flames travelling to Edmonton and vise versa. Do really get on a plane for 20 minutes or do they bus.

Closer to 4 hours by bus (assuming the bus is not left hand laning it at 130kmh). Try 4.5 to 5hrs in these current conditions as usually the stretch on either side of Red Deer can get real slippery. One major accident and the highway can get shut down. Heck they can close it if the conditions are that bad too. So that corridor would be closed too. Hwy 2 from just above Red Deer to Calgary is listed as Snow Covered (50% to 75% covered), Red Dear to Edmonton is listed as Clear. Roads in Calgary are listed as Slippery Sections.

I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to play after even a 3 hour (let alone 4 or 5 hour) bus ride just before the game. It was really just a joke.

In ideal conditions. Even the roads in the city are looking really bad.

Remember how when you were a kid and there was a test the next day you couldn't possibly pass so you'd pray for some freak weather storm? Well, all us Flames fans banded together to avoid an asswhoopin' tonight

How about this: Vancouver flies out to Edmonton, Calgary drives a bus up to Edmonton, and we have Vancouver @ Calgary from Rexall Place?

Why would they do that? There would be no fans at the game...

I used to wonder that too, but it was answered when the Kings traded Conroy back to Calgary: the Kings were doing a skate in Red Deer when he was traded so got on the bus without him. He sat there for hours not knowing whether he was going to Edmonton or Calgary
