Mike Komisarek more likely to be bought out

Strickland also tweeted, "Even if Leafs took back 50 per cent of Komisarek salary not sure teams are lining up to take that contract...compliance buyout seems more likely."

Compliance buyout seems like.

But wouldn't that be the Gomez/Redden thing all over again if they simply tell him to stay home?

Except for the fact that Komisarek wouldn't have a shot a signing a cheap contract somewhere else...

I think the Leafs can get something for him BUT I would imagine that the Leafs backup plan is to buy him out.

One of the real reasons he is scratched is so he doesn't get injured, then obviously they couldn't buy him out.

Plan A: Look for a team interested in giving him a shot for a late pick or prospect while keeping him in the pressbox.

Plan B: Amnesty him in the summer to take the 4.5M of the cap which will be very valuable for Toronto next season.

Take your pick.

I'd take him on NYR at league min. Isn't he right handed?

I thought he was just a healthy scratch? Anyway, I'd take him on the Rangers as a depth D for cheap.

if he gets injured during practice, the Leafs can't use the compliance buyout ( until he's cleared ). this is why Gomez was told to stay home.

Montreal could use some more help at D and the Jets could use an upgrade from the likes of Clitsome and Postma.

Komisarek is not what the Habs need.

Interesting, I didn't know that. Granted, the likelihood of him being injured in practice vs. being injured while playing and practicing is a lot lower. Who knows I guess.

He'll be bought in the off-season and given a chance to start somewhere else. This season, however, he'll have to settle for riding the pine unless someone gets injured

i'd trade for him for NYR.. We can take if for a this and next year..capwise it would be rough but all of our players are out of contract after 14' season anyway so it would work out... Maybe tor can retain some cap to make it all work..

Staal-Girardi
Mcd-Stralman
MDZ-Kom..works better for Eminger/Bickel/Gilroy

all depends on if McIrath would be ready by next year..but even still he would be good as a 3rd pair, adds toughness..

I'd be shocked if the Leafs couldn't simply retain some of his salary and deal him for a pick. Komisarek hasn't been THAT bad.

You would have to retain at least half his salary to make him tradeable!

If they took 50% of his salary, that's what.... around $600K for the remainder of this year and 2.25 next year?

Seems like that would have value to some teams.

Better than paying 100% of his salary and getting nothing back for him, no?

When is the last time Komisarek cleared a crease without getting a penalty? When was the last time Komisarek didn't look stupid on the bloody Leafs?

Montreal doesn't need Komisarek today. They need Komisarek back in 07-08. That he ain't.

His career took a turn after ge got Lucic'd. He is weakminded and couldn't recover. Also Markov hid a lot of Komi's shortcomings. Markov deserved the Norris for turning Komi into a top pairing dman at one point in time!

he hasn't been the same since Lucic knocked him out and i don't expect him to ever refind that form considering how little he's played since.

if the guy can't even crack the Leafs bottom 6 pairing - he's practically hopeless. you'd think a team like the Oilers, Stars or Avs would have thrown a 7th rounder for his services - but it looks like no one wants him.
