Another sign that Toronto is getting it together. As a Bruin fan I don't like that at all, but it is good for the game. A question for Toronto fans who would be your second compliance buyout? Liles?
Not a chance. He's got plenty of value to be traded. It's just not a great idea to do it now when our top 9 defencemen are all healthy.

i'm no Leafs expert, but i don't think Liles has been bad at all. Carlyle wants a big ass that can thrown their weight around and Liles just ain't that kind of player.
Ottawa might take a flyer on him for the playoffs with all the injuries, he IS a right shot defenseman who knows the division. Gryba has been great, but if we do end up making the playoffs, we'll need more than mike Lundin as our 7th D man.
I think the Leafs can get something for him BUT I would imagine that the Leafs backup plan is to buy him out.
One of the real reasons he is scratched is so he doesn't get injured, then obviously they couldn't buy him out.
Plan A: Look for a team interested in giving him a shot for a late pick or prospect while keeping him in the pressbox.
Plan B: Amnesty him in the summer to take the 4.5M of the cap which will be very valuable for Toronto next season.
Take your pick.
I'd use one of our compliance buy-outs take back the 4.5 cap space and then go hard after Perry if he hits free agency. We already have 6 million in space so adding the 4.5 would give us a nice cushion even after signing him. I don't think the Ducks can afford both Getzlaf and him.

Liles hasn't been bad where he deserves a buy-out, once we get injuries or they send down Holzer he'll be back in. For now he's been a true professional by not complaining and taking it for the team.

You would have to retain at least half his salary to make him tradeable!
Which I would do if a decent asset was coming back. The Leafs have plenty of cap space coming up and using a small percentage to retain Komisareks salary would be fine by me.
Used to be a big physical shut-down dman in Montreal . Now he's just a decent depth guy with slow feet.
I remember when Habs and Bruins fans told us that after Lucic wrecked Komi's shoulder he never looked the same. Those fans were absolutely 100% correct.
I'd personally use the second one on Grabovski... People may not like that but I have always found him a tad overrated. Not that the dollar figure is horrible, though he is still 1-1.5 mil overpaid. Its the term. He will be 32 and 33 and those last two years and I'm guessing his production by then will be pretty weak relative to the amount he's paid.
I was never a Burke hater and in fact liked many of his moves, but this is one I never liked. As for Komisarek, I didn't mind the move at all at the time but now it was obviously an error.
Ehh, maybe we can trade him. If not buying out is fine, i'm sure he'll be signed in no times anyways for cheaper. Good bottom pairing guy, just can't justify him at his price.
Liles doesn't need to be bought out, he can be traded easily IMO.

JVR-Bozak-Perry
Kessel - Kadri - Lupul
not a bad top 6 if I say so myself
The Ducks have 28 Million in cap space next year, I think they should be fine if Perry decides he will join the team again.

Anaheim can easily afford both with how much cap space they have right now and with who is coming off the books after this season. Selanna and Koivu alone are off the books nextyear and who knows if they'll play another season, both of them are 8 million together.

Liles has been real solid for the Leafs. I don't think there's a chance in hell they'll use a compliance buyout on him.
As a Habs fan, I'd be willing to do Komi for Kaberle. Both players go back to teams that they had greater success with. Both players might rebound from it. The Habs need a D more like Komi than like Kaberle (i.e. big, strong, mean defensive D). If no career rebound occurs, the buyout option is still there for both sides (I think).
Not sure what Leaf fans think of the idea, though.
He'll be bought in the off-season and given a chance to start somewhere else. This season, however, he'll have to settle for riding the pine unless someone gets injured
A likely scenario. Unless, he moves soon for a low draft pick to clear room on the roster, I think they'll end up buying him out in the summer and someone will take a gamble on him then, when he can be picked up at a cheaper rate. He's missed 40% of games since joining the Leafs in 2009/10. I can't see in a shortened season too many teams wanting to take on that sort of gamble at this stage, especially given his inclination towards taking penalties and his injury record.
Better than paying 100% of his salary and getting nothing back for him, no?
No not at all because the caphit will be entirely gone in the offseason giving us about 22 mil in cap space instead of retaing half his cap hit and and needlessly burning 2.25 million in cap space
