Keith Ballard being traded?

Is a healthy scratch for the past two games after playing some of his best hockey as a Canuck. Canucks 7th and 8th defenceman are playing over him while Bieksa is injured.

Rest for a cramped schedule, maybe?

Anaheim has been doing just that, giving d-men a little breather so that they don't get ground down.

Either sitting out because a trade is being worked on or there's is some bad blood between AV and Ballard and AV is "punishing" him so to speak. Or AV is just an idiot, that's an option as well.

Wouldn't surprise me if Gillis is looking at swapping Ballard for potential help at center with Kesler gone for most of the season.

Wouldn't bet against all three at once

AV is an awful coach.

you have an option between

1) "fatiguing" a dman that plays like 15 min a game
2) putting cam barker in the lineup

what do you choose

Ballard must have taken AV's parking spot the first day he arrived at GM place. AV's still holding a grudge.

If that's not the best logic I've ever heard I don't know what is

How's his defense been?
I might be willing to move our extra 2nd if he can play good, consistent defense next to Pietrangelo at even strength; but I also know that hasn't been the case the last few years.

Was he playing well? Yes. But look at the last two games he played:

-2 in Detroit, everyone was bad in that one
-2 in Phoenix, played only 12:49 icetime

This is just AV sending a message to him that there is enough depth on the team for him to sit. Maybe they had an argument, I don't know that.

Yea this is very interesting Ballard was playing too well for this to be about his ability, I would say theres either an injury we don't know about or a deal. The whole defence looked awful the two games prior to last night and Ballard wasn't extraordinarily bad over anyone else.

I wouldn't want Gillis to move him to a team Van could be meeting in the playoffs but it'd probably require something involving Steen and not a 2nd with Kesler out for a month+. Steen is also injured though so not sure there is a deal to make.

I think it was just a response to LA having some big forwards, coach wanted a bigger d-man to deal with the likes of Penner and King. Not indicative of a trade.

Didn't Ballard just get an A? Thought I saw a thread on that on the main board just a few days ago.

Give him the A, but make him a healthy scratch...doesn't add up. Injury we don't know about?

Ballard is treated like a child here, anytime he doesn't completely screw up the fans say he's playing well. But he's still overpaid and full of flaws. And we've had a lot of success with him scratched in the past and won last night without him.

Ive got a sneaking suspicion that you see Ballard and a goalie returning to Florida here

no not traded, he's being scratched because he is a bad defense man. any GM that thinks its a good idea to bring him in should be fired for even entertaining the thought.

The thing is every single one of the Dmen on the Canucks have been remarkably terrible for stretches in the season. Edler and Bieksa especially. Ballard was playing 18 minutes a game and doing consistently well with Tanev. It's an inexplicable double standard that when Ballard has 1-2 tough games and he gets canned. Alberts was directly responsible for a goal last night..and Barker..is Barker..He's living on his 3rd overall laurels, its the only reason he is still in the NHL. Ballard is absolutely loved by his teammates, its the coaching staff who seems to have a problem with him. He's played strong as a 3rd pairing guy, not worth 4.2 but its not like cap is being saved by scratching him..

In a related story it was just announced that Ballard has joined the cast of Horrible Bosses 2.
