A few generally do every year (~5) but which of them is anyone's guess...lots of first overalls in the league are average at best.
Gotcha. Also... The passing in this league is atrocious so far from what I've seen. I had heard that the MLS was on par with Ligue !. Doesn't seem to be the case though. Am I far off in any of this?
What are some of the intricacies to notice and appreciate in the MLS?
No fan base and an ownership that's hostile to everyone who isn't a die hard supporter. Expect the HDC to look like that almost all year for Chivas games.
FWIW the announced attendance at that game was 7,121...as laughable as that number is by itself, it's not even close to being accurate.

Who has more potential (generally), a player who was drafted out of college, or a player who came through the youth system of the club?
Depends on the player....Dempsey came from college...Landon/Bradley/Jozy not so much...the majority believe getting into a professional environment as soon as possible is the best thing for a young player...and waiting till your 22 to start playing professionally is to late for soccer player to hit his peak.

Plenty of good players have gone through college. Clint Dempsey at Furman, Graham Zusi at Maryland, Will Bruin and Indiana. A team who evaluates college players well and has a good scouting network will typically find a few good players out of colleges.
What a great game on ESPN2 tonight. Portland really brought the style to the game in the second half. MLS at its finest.

Per Grant Wahl, 2,700 sold, 2,100 comped and the rest made up out of thin air.

So they just made up 2300 fans? That puts even the Rochester Rhinos to shame.
Chelís said he didn't see himself there for two years. I think the better question is, will he be there for two months? The team is a disaster on the field as well as off.
That was a hell of a game in Portland tonight. Really hoping that the timbers could pull one out at the end of the game, but oh well. Really entertaining stuff.
And that dude valeri is really good. Good pick up.
