I agree with you that they will likely try and go after Perry, but they have to have some reasonable expectation they could end up with him in order to do something like a buyout or trade Briere for little value. One of the problems with the Flyers last summer was they assumed they'd have a good shot at big players and it ended up biting them in the end. Briere isn't worth his cap hit anymore, but he also isn't useless. That was more of what I was getting at.

This Blues fan would happily offer up our 1st for Briere. He's a perfect fit for our team in that he's a natural center, scores when it counts, and although his cap hit is high the real salary is all that matters to the Blues.

Could you name the teams that you think would give the Flyers a 1st round pick for Briere?

Sort of like GM's not talking to free agents or their agents prior to the start of free agency, yet some free agents are immediately signed when the free agent signing period begins. Since when did GM's start having kind hearts for the players they want to rid their teams of?

I think what most of us are saying is that a first rounder for a PPG playoff performer signed to an extremely reasonable salary for 2 more years isn't exactly a stretch.

If you made that trade, where would you play Backes, Berglund, Arnott (if/when he signs later this week), Nichol, & Briere. Who sits, and who plays the 4th line center spot?

Screw signing Arnott if we can trade for Briere, and I'd happily bump Berglund to the third line as he's been playing like *****.

Briere won't play center for us. He is too small for Hitch, and his defense is a joke.

Well when your offense sucks, maybe its time to try something different.

The Bruins acquired a conditional second-round pick in 2014 or '15 in that deal.

Huh? With Pronger on LTIR, what's the cap space issue?

Where is your evidence that Holmgren wants to get rid of Briere? There is none. It's quite possible that the Blues approached Briere. Also, have you looked at the Flyers' track record? They are one of the best organizations in the league when it comes to doing right by their players. Gagne went to TB, Richards to LA, etc.

I'd want a first, and anything else would be gravy.

And the sent Carter to Columbus. If they did right by their players, Richards and Carter never would have been traded.

2 way street. Sometimes teams expect the Captain and Assistant to lead the team to more than happy hour at the bar.

Heard Cup Finals is a pretty nice place to get a drink, could be wrong though, never been there myself.

Wouldn't that be some form of tampering for a team to make direct contact with a player on another team?

It wasn't enough. They just gave them a shot of beer...wanted the whole KEG. Personally, I loved having those 2 on Philly...early in their careers. Richards showed people that hard work could beat talent most nights. It just started to bug me with the little things coming from the captain. Coming to camp last, refusing to wear a Flyers cap at a Flyers event, refusing to stop drinking for a month. In the end, he was traded because with trading Carter...Richards would have become more of a problem to the coach. Also, remember that last year, Philly's season could have been much better if Pronger had not have gone down.

Annnyway, if Philly is selling at the deadline...I do think more teams will ask about Briere.

Even Philly fans know that is awful, but I can see why a Hawks fan would like it.

Approached Holmgren about Briere, and Holmgren going to ask about him, that should be.
