Fantastic D man and will be a huge stud for the Leafs. He was a steal getting him 5th overall.

It is funny that he will get nothing but hate on here just because he is a Leaf.

I think he's the most likeable Leaf prospect since...ever!

He's going to be very good defenseman.

(mostly posting to break the combo of only Leafs fans posting anything about him...)

Rielly has been very impressive on an offensively-challenged MJ team.
Are these adjusted for games missed/played in or is this more just a rough estimate based on how many goals their teams have scored this year?

He wont get hate for being a leaf. He'll get hate on here for people like you calling him a steal at 5th. Hes done nothing to prove that and at best I would say theres one guy ahead of him in that draft that should've went after him. Theres another person comparing him to AP up higher in this thread like hes the bench mark. Thats why he'll get hate not because hes a leaf

No, it's adjusted for games played. I went through and subtracted the goals scored in all the games without each player in the lineup.

EDIT: although it's still somewhat of an estimate. Ideally, I'd like to look at points/60, but unfortunately, I don't think the WHL tracks ice time.

Astute point.

I agree though, Rielly has looked pretty good every time I've saw him.

Usually i'd make deriding comments about the Leafs, but as I get older, the more I understand, neigh, crave, that our two teams should be the top fighting it out for beasts in the east.

Not to take anything away from Rielly, Hamilton or Murphy, but to be fair, those three don't have guys like Derrick Pouliot or Troy Rutkowski on their team. Portland has the luxury of not needing Jones to be as involved in goals for.

Still though, it's pretty damn impressive that Rielly is in on more than a third of his teams goals. That's a tough statistic to ignore.

Rielly is a good prospect but generally speaking the talented offensive players will be involved in a higher percentage of goals on their team when they are on a bad offensive team.

Rielly has the killer instinct that the top offensive guys in Doughty, Karlsson, Letang, etc have.

IMO, jake gardiner on the other end doesnt. It seems to me to be a bit of a separation in decision making skills.

I really like Rielly, but I just don't like him being a Leafs

Honestly, I was pretty surprised at the initial "LOL Rieilly at 5". Lindholm picked at 6 was, imo, a bigger surprise that Morgan being chosen "that" early.

Rielly is legitimately the best prospect Toronto has had in decades. Gotta go back to the 80s to find a similar calibre prospect.

Schenn despite being drafted just as high, lacked an all around game, and lacked the speed/vision to really be a top Dman. He was considered a safe pick to get a #2-3 defensive Dman, whereas Rielly has the elite tools that he could potentially become a franchise Dman.

I wonder where he'll rank at the end of the year against Reinhart, Murray (hard to judge him), Dumba, Pouliot, Lindholm, etc.

Can join the Toronto Marlies in a couple weeks as his team is eliminated from playoff contention. Should get a decent look at how he can play at the pro level.

5th overall is not a "steal". The people picked before him are extremely good hockey players as well.

No, people hate on him because people like YOU call him a steal when he was a 5th overall pick and hasn't played an NHL game...

I'm excited to see him with the Marlies. He'll get a good 20+ games in the AHL, which should help his transition to the NHL next season. This time will be great for him and help conceal any growing pains from the media and most casual whining fans.

Why is this a reason to hate on the prospect?

That makes sense. Hate a player because some random people on the Internet say something.

Looking forward to seeing MoRiles in the blue and white.

Not hating on the prospect. Hating on posters who declare him the 2nd coming of christ before he even plays a professional game.

The post I quoted was referring to Rielly, not the poster.

He probably makes the Leafs next season. The 20 or so games he gets under the tutelage of Dallas Eakins in the American League won't hurt either.

Can't wait for him to play under Eakins. I'm assuming he will anyway. He and Gardiner would be pretty much the only reason to watch them. That team got gutted once the new CBA kicked in, they lost lots of talent.
