As you guys know we like to have fun with the 50/50 contest during home games. However one lucky Jets fan wasn't worried about winning IC Gear as he won his 2nd 50/50 purse in the last 2.5 weeks (Combined $80,407.50).

Full story.

So if you guys won the 50/50 would you continue to buy tickets? What would you do with the cash?

Winning once doesn't make you less likely to win in the future. If he was willing to buy tickets the first time makes sense he'd keep buying. I personally don't like the odds so I don't play.

As long as it's won in the 300's, I call it a win.

If I read the article right, then I was at the Flyers game when this guy won his first 50/50. He was in section 328, rocking a nasty bootleg sweater.

When he won, someone yelled "now you can buy a real jersey."

Assuming he was at all 9 home games, spent $20/game on tickets, and the pot was $80,000/game ($40,000 payout), the odds of winning twice are 1 in 445,223.

Must be nice.

I drop $20 every game. I always say that if I win the 50/50 I'm taking my row out for drinks at the Tavern afterwards, strangers or whatever. And I'm also taking the day off from the office the next day.

50/50

I used to have A Moose mini pack with my buddies (20 of us were together in section 216), and we had two rules:

1) you MUST bet a beer with someone on the results of the Timbits hockey in the first intermission. Sometimes this 5 minutes was the most intense part of the evening.
2) everyone had to buy a 50/50 ticket, and if someone won, you had to spend it all THAT NIGHT with everyone in attendance. We never won, and now our 20 friends are splitting four seats for the Jets, but I shudder to think what would happen if that rule stayed in effect for some of the 50/50 results with the Jets. People would die.

At any rate, I'm flying in from Thunder Bay to take in tomorrow's game, and I will definitely be buying a 50/50 ticket.

/\ those are some crazy rules.

I always tell the kids selling me the tickets if he gives me a winner, ill throw a nice peice of the action his way. get his name every game.

i drop $20 every game on tickets, but i dont really gamble other than that. One game last year i was 3 numbers off the winning ticket. pissed me off.

If I read the "free press' side of the story" correct it said he had 3 tickets....now that could be 3 $20 tickets or any dollar amount for that matter or it could be the $5 for 3 numbers. Either way what a story. Oddly enough he still wore the fake jersey to the second game. At this point the Jets should just give him a authenic jersey.

I think the comment about someone winning twice last year was incorrect. It was "Ryan Wilson", I believe, but it was actually two different guys with the same name. I think the team issued a statement about that. Now what would those odds be!
