Agreed

Too bad Patty will get suspended in part due to Richards stupidity.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

If NHL wants to change how it views/deals with "push" from behind, count me in but it's too common play. Can't pick/choose when to apply it.

It is weird looking at two different boarding calls (btw the bordering on Flynn from Bickell was the worst one). Kaleta and Richards were both trying to play the puck when Kaleta pushed Richards, whose knee seemed to buckle while he was trying to shoot the puck around the boards (and with that motion he fell into the board)... than Richards flips over and holds his hand (so it seems like he hurt his wrist).

Girardi sees the puck go around the boards to a spot where Ennis was at. He charges at Ennis and turns but still hits Ennis from behind clearly right next to the glass.

But what I saw? WHAT A ****ING JOKE. Don't get me wrong, that SHOULD be called and he should get maybe a game. But there are hits worse than that EVERY GAME that aren't called or are weak 2 minute calls.

The Girardi hit on Ennis was a lot harder, but the Kaleta hit on Richards looked so bad because Richards was headed straight to the boards already.

God damn.

I fully agree. I missed the game as my PVR messed up the recording. But when I read the box score and saw 5 min major hitting from behind for Kaleta I expected a disasterous crunch from behind.

This was a joke. Hardly more than a push into the boards.

Others have said it and I'll repeat it. I'm fine with the 5 and a game call from the refs. It is Kaleta, it is in NYC. But that should be the end of it.

Personally, I think a fine would be the worst thing that SHOULD happen for this play. However, because it's a repeat offender, I'm sure Kaleta will be tagged with 2 games.

G- They should test Richards because clearly he has some angelic powers to recover from a broken neck/collarbone/shoulder/clavicle in just minutes!

Is there sudden memory loss on this board?

I can remember many instances when players were rip for doing nothing, not even looking at the opposing player. Which in fact Ott didn't do. He didn't even acknowledge it took place. I could care less about the fact that he did nothing. Its the smart play.

I'm just commenting on the fact that if others like Pommer, Stafford, Foligno would have done the same amount of nothing they likely have been ripped by a good chunk of fans. This is not an earth shattering statement.
This is bad, man. I'm not even going to touch it. Just know your thought or insinuation here bothers me, I will leave it at that.

But I will say that Foligno is useless. That could indirectly be my response for this.

Miller didn't play exceptional. The Rangers had minimal quality opportunities, the Nash goal should've been stopped, and he got schooled in the shoot out.

Good:

- Rolston. Falling for him. The team is playing for him, he puts the right guys out at the right times, and is slowly getting the most out of... Nothing much to work with

- Steve Ott is legitimate. Glad to have him

- PKF line has me at ease when they're out there. Porter is a breath of fresh air defensively, and I have faith in this trio in our zone.

- I will take a point in a game like this. I'm amped to go to NJ Thursday in person; hoping we can win Tuesday and keep some sort of streak and momentum

Bad:

- Sam and Joe were awful to listen to tonight

- Regehr with his forced stretch passes. He's bothering me lately

Ugly:

- the PP. what a ****ing joke. COME ON.

Regarding the hit by Saddan Bin-leta... Obvious penalty. But he tapped him. I've seen much worse. Quite an uproar over something not nearly as serious as other hits this week, or month, or season.

That said, why Richards is bent over and so easily off balance that close to the boards after playing this game for nearly 30 years is also something to wonder at. Protect yourself guys, do what they teach 4-year olds.
Agree 100%. It's not a play that Kaleta should make, BUT it's also a play almost all NHLers make. That little push from behind to let the guy know you're there, I see it ALL the time and no one cares because 99% of the time the situation makes it a non-issue. But Richards's position and lack of balance made it look a lot worse than it probably was.

I am disgusted how much the hit is blowing up, honestly. If it wasn't Kaleta, people would be calling it dumb at worse and bad luck at best.

Do people think Kaleta gave Richards a soft shove thinking he would fall awkwardly into the boards like that?

I am glad Kaleta didn't say anything. NOTHING he says would have made anyone happy. No point right now.

I happily pay for Center Ice. In addition to ensuring I see all the games, I don't have to listen to other team's announcers.

If you reverse the hits, and Girardi hits Ennis like Kaleta did Richards, and vice versa, guess which hit everyone's still talking about: It's whichever one Kaleta did.

He hit him clear as day in the numbers and Richards was set that way while Ennis turned at the last second and was much closer to the boards. The Girardi hit was bad but that doesn't take away that the Kaleta hit was pretty disgusting. That is something that needs to leave the game and he deserves a suspension (I'd say 3 games but I bet he gets 5 considering he got 4 for the Voracek headbutt). There has to be an onus on the player hitting him when he's angled that way for multiple seconds before hand. Honestly, he could have been paralyzed from that going head first or at the least destroyed his shoulder or collarbone. I couldn't believe he returned to the game.
Sorry, I meant the push/hit itself, not what resulted. It was an awkward situation that ended up badly. There are most dangerous hits than that most games that don't result in anything because the receiving player isn't losing their balance and/or isn't skating towards the boards while about to fall.

Bingo. People will hate anything Pat Kaleta does because he's Pat Kaleta. He's a pest, and he's great at what he does, so this is really to be expected. Though still annoying.

-I liked Myers-Ehrhoff tonight, Myers looked like he minimized the mishaps in the d-zone and was looking to skate the puck out more. Good sign. Ehrhoff saved our @$$ with his defensive play on the PP a couple times. Solid game from Sekera as well. Guy has been great since coming back from injury.
-Grigorenko contributing on the score sheet again, and Staff finally remembering how to goal
-Ott/Gerbe shorty was a beauty

B
-"Steve" Nash and "Mike" Richards ("Nice job," Rayzer)

U
-Our powerplay
-Callahan. Every single ****ing time we play them, he gets the game winner
-Boarding and Pat Kaleta h8

I know he's an ex-hockey player, not an English teacher...but that "acrost" thing with him always annoys me.

For all the other mistakes or silly things he says, THAT one just makes me think he's dumb.

If you've ever been crosschecked, you'd know that it doesn't take a lot of force by the crosschecker to cause the target to go flying. That stick, secured in both of the checkers hands, can launch you pretty effectively into anything. There's no "give" in a crosscheck.

If he had pushed with just his hands, it wouldn't have been as bad.

Absolutely. The stick is used far too often.

pretty much this.

The Ennis hit was nothing in comparison. I'm so sick of guys turning their face to the glass when they know the hit is coming and that's exactly what Ennis did.

I don't think Kaleta had any intent whatsoever to do what he did. He barely touched him. It was just bad luck or something, Nash must've been off balance and that little tap caused him to lose it. Kaleta will get creamed bc of who he is and the way Nash went into the boards (really ugly).

"I'm so sick of guys turning their face to the glass when they know the hit is coming and that's exactly what Ennis did." ..

It's called instinct...... have something come at you....more times than not you are going to turn your back...

Not to mention that its hockey instinct to protect the puck from a defender rushing at you.

Both hits were textbook 2-minute minor penalties:

Kaleta with a crosscheck

Girardi with boarding

You learn not to turn your face to the glass when you're about to get hit at a young age. You also learn to keep your head up if you're going to turn your back to the play with the puck when you're 4 feet from the boards.

two minute minors. miiiiiinors

What did Rolston say in addition to the "heart/soul" quote about the hit? Still trying to find a working link to his post game presser
