Of the half-dozen games I've watched, Klassen does show a lot of Girardi-like qualities. He's not as physical, but has good stick work and knows where to be on the ice. I'm a little worried about him in the offensive zone because he's a little tentative to loose pucks, which I guess is a good quality for a defenceman. I'd like to see him assert himself more playing the puck. An interesting caveat is that he's a lot more mobile than a typical, defensive defenceman. I think after he matures he could become a threat in transition as he gains confidence in his game.

Tessier rules on the shorthanded. Gets lots of aggressive scoring opportunities.

And I'm a Klassen fan as well. I don't notice him on the ice, which is always a good thing when it comes to my take on defensemen at this level. The good comparison is how I turn to my dad or sister at games and say "Sean Collins sucks!"

Okay just wondering? Thanks

Injured
Hrivik, Marek LW Concussion - IR
Bourque, Ryan LW Upper body injury - IR
Wiebe, Shayne C Torn ACL - out for season

Recalled to NYR
Miller, J.T. C

Any news on Hrivik or Bourque?
If Miller is sent back down + Hrivik + Bourque return - this is quite a good AHL team imo. Need another defender though...
Forward lines are good especially with Miller AND if Fast and Lindberg come in soon

Talbot obviously has NHL ability according to the team since he got a 1 way deal after next season

btw if Sauer comes back would he not start next yr in the AHL? I imagine he becomes a UFA and the Ranges offer him a 2 way deal. just a thought

Talbot is good, still needs to work on rebound control! Not too good.

Talbot is very good, but like Osminator said, his rebound control is s***. We need a solid backup for Lundqvist after Biron (and I say that mildly because Biron has not looked good this season either) and Talbot could fit the bill. He needs work. He got a 1 way?

After the last game, I said that his rebound control needs work, but it's not total s**t. That would be Miss's rebound control. He's still not up to par for an NHLer in terms of rebound control, but he's solid for an AHLer. All other parts of his game are NHL-quality already.

Watching the game late. McIlrath-Vernace with Kreider-Noob-Segal starting. Talbot in the net.

McIlrath starts the game with a big hit along the boards.

Talbot gives away the puck trying to pass it, but Parlett blocked it.

Haley and Palm on a 2 on 1. Haley with a good pass, but Palm's shot is stopped.

Kreider tried to go around a dman using his speed but failed. Needs to stop stickhandling.

Mash fought McIver, who's #2 in the AHL in fighting majors. Mash punched him twice, then tackled him. Mash won this fight big. McIver is going to the locker room for a bloody nose.

Kreider causes a turnover on forecheck. Good use of his speed.

Klassen with a big hit.

Good puck-carrying by Haley again tonight.

A couple of strong saves by Talbot from up close.

Kreider again takes away the puck on the forecheck. The combination of his size and speed is very effective when he forechecks.

Penalty on Backman, a couple of good shots, but nothing big happened.

The very next shift after the PP: point shot from Vernace hit Haley who turned around and scored.

The next shift: 2 on 1 by Haley and Yogan, who shot the puck, but it was stopped. Going back, good shot on Talbot's 5 hole, but it was stopped.

Kreider to Noob, who hits the post.

End of one.

Second period.

Penalty on Kabanov. Mash stopped from a few feet out.

McIver is back and skating with a cage. Mash must've injured him.

Thomas was noticeable for the first time tonight. He needs to use his speed more.

Two on one by the Tigers, who make a good pass, but McIlrath gets his stick in the way to block the shot. He makes good use of his reach.

Commentator: "Kreider hasn't played very well in the NHL and quite frankly, hasn't played all that well down here except for certain stretches."

Tiger PP. Another penalty as Carroll clears into the crowd. 5 on 3. Penalties killed.

Another 2 on 1 against Talbot, who makes a Lundqvist-style save with his mask.

Talbot misplayed the puck with his stickhandling 3 times tonight. Usually not a problem, but really is tonight.

Pyett draws a penalty by stickhanding from the blue line to the hash marks.

On the PP, Noob from the right boards to Segal between the hash marks, who redirects it on goal. The shot is stopped, but Kreider gets the garbage goal. Good hands in front of the net. This is exactly what I'd like to see him do.

Talbot is so square, he makes everything look easy. Everything is going into his chest or his pads or perfectly into his glove.

Ferriero with a penalty with 24 seconds to go in the second.

END OF TWO.

THIRD PERIOD

Kreider keeps causing problems for the Tigers by forechecking.

Tigers score seconds after the Ferriero penalty ended.

Kreider doing a good job driving to the net. He's finally doing what he's supposed to do instead of pretending to be Kovalev.

Talbot keeps making good saves.

Kreider saves icing by skating twice as fast as the defenseman. And now he stakes up using his speed and makes a nice shot. Didn't score, but I want to see more of this from him. These are the kinds of plays that got Thomas hot.

Campbell scores from the hash marks into the top corner. You can't give the opponent great shots every shift and expect to win.

The puck went behind the Tiger goalie, but a defenseman swept it away.

Love the idea of Kreider and Thomas because either one of them can stretch the defense with his speed.

END OF THREE

OVER TIME

Thomas makes a good defensive play to break up a play. Sends it to Segal, who skates up and passes to Pyett who makes a very nice shot. The Whale win 3-2.

You saw the penalty that Kaleta took on Brad? That would NEVER happen if McIlrath was on the team. McIlrath would kill him. I mean it. This would result in criminal charges and a funeral. There's no way that Richards would have to take this if The Undertaker was on the team.

THREE STARS

1. Pyett: good player who's solid everywhere.

2. Kreider: good game, good goal, good job driving to the net and forechecking.

3. Haley: scored and carried the puck well.

Honorable Mention: Talbot - as usual had to stop 30-some shots. His stats are 2.59 and .918. MVP of the season so far.

Exactly.

And if McI would have retaliated we would have lost the game.

Perfect example would be Chara coming down the ice to manhandle Emelin after he took a cheap shot at Seguin. I'll take that from any player on the Rangers at any time. Still waiting for this team to be the aggressor.

Chara would have been on the PP, McI wouldve been on the bench that play. Also, does Seguin need someone to take on Emelin? 17 minutes Chara was off the ice.

There is no way that Kaleta is gonna be deterred from doing what keeps him employed in this league in the first place.

I understand what you are saying. I still favor a team who can handle their own justice on the ice. McIlrath is a daunting presence. Can't wait.

I prefer getting a powerplay that won us the game, then a guy evening up the calls and losing the game. I doubt anyone actually thinks of the other team's enforcers in the heat of the moment anyway.

Chara is a daunting presence playing a zillion minutes a game.

McI and his 14-16 minutes a night as a #5 Dman, not as daunting.
