Not a chance that was true.

Why are some folks calling him "The Dream" ?

I get the feeling that people think his name is pronounced NazEEEM (so that it rhymes with dream)... when it absolutely doesn't.

Proper:

NAH-zem KAD-dree

Keep in mind Gilmour didn't come to Toronto until he was 28, in the middle of his prime. Kadri is still 22 and hasn't peaked yet. When Dougie was 22 he had 53 pts in 74 games for St.Louis. Let's give Naz a couple years before we say he is or isn't the next Gilmour.

The Dream?

Anyone remember what Marc Savard used to be called?

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 196364, 196667 and 196970 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 197071 and 197273. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 197071, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

That's what everyone on the team calls him.

'The Dream' is such a STUPID nickname. 'The Dream' was the nickname of one the best basketball players ever, Hakeem Olajuwon- who won an MVP and back-to-back championships in an era where his position was the most competitive in the history of the sport.

His teammates call him "The Dream"

They keep hashtagging it on twitter #TheDream

Not a fan nickname.

Brown Town <3

Hope he can keep it up.

Still looks weird in interviews, not use to seeing a leaf player with as little upper body size as him, but who am I to judge.

Do you think maybe they are forgetting this?

Perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek?

Does anyone know if The Rocket Frattin is playing tonight?

Why are you so sad about what his teammates and fans call him or who he is compared to?

He's still Nazem Kadri, the kid from London.

The Dream nickname started in junior from play-by-play announcers mispronouncing his first name. It's since stuck - don't complain.

Because opposing announcers pronounced it "NazEEEEm" in his first few seasons, so the team picked up on it as a joke.

There's no comparison here, but just a nickname already given to one of the best athletes...ever...so it's pretty unoriginal. I mean, wouldn't be a bit silly calling Crosby 'the great one'? Or calling Lebron- 'Air' Lebron? Or Durant- 'Magic Durant'?

It's just really lame and unoriginal.

Kadri and Hakeem play different sports so its different than your examples. Also, I love Hakeem and he is one of the greatest to play to center, however, his nickname isn't as transcendent as 'The Great One', 'Air Jordan' or Magic.

And, its what his teammates call him, hardly within anybodys control at this point. It's his nickname now.

Why "Krayon"?

Personally, I think that's silly, because one of the most entertaining activities to do in the world is to colour, and Kadri doesn't colour, he plays hockey.... And Crayon is spelled with a "C", dammit.

See how silly that sounds?

Most think it rhymes, nothing to do with any perceived greatness.
