Ducks also signed OA D-man Kevin Gagne from the Rimouski Oceanic of the QMJHL. Only listed at 5'8 176 but his 67 points in 56 games this year (tops in league amongst Dmen) suggest that he has some high end puck moving skills. Interesting moves signing 3 guys who are AHL eligible next year.

I thought it too, but then remembered he was also signed and can play in AHL next year.

Will be interesting to see how he does. He usually starts the season slow but goes into the beast mode in the 2nd part.

Source for the Gagne signing: MikaŽl Lalancette @ Twitter.

Report [LINK]:
Quote:
For Gagne, who attended Hamilton Bulldogs training camp last Fall but did not sign with the American Hockey League club, it is his first National Hockey League contract. (...)

Gagne is having an unreal season, averaging over a point per game. He is tied for the league lead in defensemen scoring with 67 points in 56 games. He is also tied for the d-man lead in goals with 17 and assists with 50.

Good to see Murray is finding creative ways to bring in talent. These are low risk moves that could have a decent pay off

Even if it amounts to nothing in the NHL, this is the type of deal can help the AHL affiliate, which can only be good in relationships and for our prospects.

If I can find a copy of Jack Kuzmyk's head shot from the sting this year, I'll post it. Even funnier.

Gagne is tiny, but he clearly has skill and can skate. Looks like he has damn slick wrister from the point as well.

That's a combination you generally can only go for in the draft. The lack of size is the single biggest reason guys with that skill level are available as free agents.

Maybe Gagne and vatanan can combine their size and make an average size Nhl player.

Saw Gagne play Friday night against my local team on Friday Night Hockey on Sportsnet. He looked pretty good despite his size. That being said the Q is known for being the smallest of the 3 CHL leagues. I don't think he go any further then the AHL, but who knows

Danny Dekeyser
Nate Schmidt

There are those late bloomers out there. Sure the competition is high but I hope we can land one or two of them.

Well the Ducks must like him they just gave him a three year deal and threw a boat load of money at him (like they did with Ryan Lasch, (who?)

Nice, maybe team prepare to sell Vatanen or send him back to Europe.
We don't need three dwarf D-man in roster.

Send a message via ICQ to Professor John Frink
I think the consensus is that Vatanan will take Lydmans spot next season, which leaves an offensive hole in the AHL next season from the defense. I imagine Gagne and Heed are going to be counted on to fill that void.

That being said, the AHL defense sure could use some toughness and size to fill out the rest of the roster.
