Ice Chips: Game time decision.

He was the Leafs' leading scorer in the 1963–64, 1966–67 and 1969–70 seasons, and the team's top goal scorer in 1970–71 and 1972–73. Keon was considered one of the fastest skaters in the NHL, and one of the best defensive forwards of his era.[3] He would usually play against the opposing team's top centre, and developed a reputation for neutralizing some of the league's top scorers. In 1970–71, he scored eight shorthanded goals, setting an NHL record.

The team has got 4 games this week. If he's a game time decision today, then I don't think it's crazy to say that he'll be back at some point this week. The concern was with his skating not being up to his normal level but that's understandable given a leg injury that prevents a player from doing any lower body workouts (including skating).

I totally agree ----AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY with Mac!!!!
The issue is that Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul had mutually beneficial chemistry. While JVR has flourished as a result of the playmaking prowess of Kessel, JVR has failed to reciprocate as evidenced by his meager 4 assists. On the other hand, when Kessel and Lupul have played together they both scored at a 30G+, PPG pace, which is certainly better than having one 40G scorer and 1 60pt scorer. Furthermore, I beleive JVR would be equally successful adding some size and goalscoring prowess to either the Grabovski-Kulemin or Kadri-Frattin pairings.

The issue with this assessment is that Kessel's lack of goal production has in large been a part to bad luck, not because of a lack of quality set ups by his linemates or a lack of opportunity to get shots on net. Also throw in the fact that when you play wide open hockey like they did last year it creates a lot more room on the ice. I don't have a breakdown of his goals last year but I believe that a lot of Kessel and Lupul's goals were due to rushes up the ice. With the kind of talent that Kessel has, you don't want to give him time and space. The team playing more defensively responsible hockey means that there are less opportunities for Kessel to get going off the rush and find the perfect spot to shoot at.

No...but when that percentage does start to drop, I hope he takes more shots.

Have a feeling he is in.

Doubt they run him hard in practice and them slot Orr back in there.

McClement was running on the 3rd and Komarov back up on 2(b). Carlyle likes his guys prepared.

I hope they emphasize this to him. Shoot the puck as much as possible. His shot is just lethal. Over 20% in the A last year, and 29% in the AHL Playoffs. Just filthy.

Even if he doesn't start today, those will likely be his linemates when he returns. Obviously he'd be practicing with them.

Frattin says he's still day-to-day.

Leafs' Matt Frattin: "I'm not playing tonight." No timeline.

Anyone else getting a weee bit concerned? I guess he's skating so that's good. So much for missing "a week." Tonight is game #11 he's missed.

I think everyone suspected that the initial prognosis was optimistic.

There is no sense in rushing him back until he is aboslutely 100%, and Kadri's line has been our best line recently despite his absence.

It's been exactly 3 weeks today and counting.

Last year Reimer was day-to-day to start.... so was Liles. They both signficant time.

It's a running joke with my buddy's and I. Whatever the Leafs first initially say is the timeframe, triple it.
