This situation boils down to getting cap room to go after Corey perry for me.

Yup.

Pittsburgh literally gave away their second best dman (Michalek) at the draft last year in order to clear space for Parise.

I'm not saying perry is forsure, I'm saying we at least need the room to give our best shot, but a trade can be made at any time to accomplish that.

Just a sidetrack, I firmly believe we have a good chance at perry, fits flyers hockey and the thought of playing with G would be hard to pass up..

It seemed suter and parise had a plan all along

If Homer feels he can move Briere to help the team he will do it. He makes whatever moves he can to do what he thinks will make the team better (see Pronger, Richards, Carter, and Bryz). The Flyers always try to do right for their players but that will not stop him from making a move to better the team. It would not surprise me if Briere is moved, whether through trade or amnesty, if keeping him will stop us from signing our young core to new deals or from making another big move. If he is moved I would expect it to be at the deadline or in this offseason. Otherwise I think he stays until his deal ends, and then the Flyers sign Ryan as his contract ends the same season as Briere

If Briere had been around during that horrific Dying Time to start the season I suspect that wouldn't be the case

7 Power Play points out of the 22 during that time. So factor that in a bit. Then again you are neglecting the year before that because its minimizes the +/- deficit.

Last 3 years; 45gp 27g 25a 52pts -4 with 17 Power Play points.

We all know Danny is weak on the defensive side, but he opens up the game.

Yes, a valid point. I confess I didn't actually look at his teammates' numbers for comparison first...you know, like two posts after I said +/- needs context.

Sorry where did you post his teammates numbers? Maybe I'm misconstruing some of the sarcasm here.

You did say it needs context previously, but then go on to what seems like a disregard of that statement. Maybe I should have quoted the poster you quoted...?

Yes, you're misconstruing some self-deprecation.

I think that if we are out of it...we need to trade Briere. Get assets for him while you can. We are struggling fitting him in anyways. Let that 6.5 mill cap hit give us some room to make moves IF WE WANT(or CAN)

I think we'll see the majority of owners going balls out to make the playoffs this season. They already lost a ton of revenue, and a playoff (even 1 round) would make up a much larger % of games than in a normal unshortened season. Only a couple owners will see their team as out of the playoffs by the deadline, and the Flyers almost certainly won't be one of them.

Im beginning doubt he'll be traded. The Flyers are the 8th seed currently. If Holmgren got a good offer it would probably be Snyder's call though. Then they would need to convince Briere.

I say we pick up Leino. Buffalo will be happy to pay half, and then Briere doesn't suck anymore.

I brought this up in another thread when my mad scientist wheels were spinning. When exactly is the buy-out period following this season? It has huge implications in regards to signing a player like Perry. Mainly, can we sign Perry first then buy-out Briere, or do we have to buy-out Briere first in order to make a run at Perry in terms of cap space. Pretty significant it you think about it. Under the first scenario, if Homer swings for the fences and misses on Perry at least we still have Briere. If we buy-out Briere and miss on Perry (as well as any other talent that would be considered an upgrade), we're **** out of luck. So it would be wise to figure out have to "game" the amnesty buy-outs first before doing something stupid.

If he won't waive his NMC and his cap really does become a problem, especially in the face of the lowering cap and his performance falters, I would say a buy-out might be in order then. Fully pay him off, give him a job with the club somewhere, and still be in the area for his kids.

He'd be able to make more money by signing somewhere else after the buyout.

Four teams with now with reported interest in trying for Briere. Preds, Coyotes, Blue and Bruins.

BRIERE HAPPY TO STAY IN PHILADELPHIA
Daniel Briere wants to remain a Philadelphia Flyer, but that hasn't put an end to the trade rumors swirling about him lately.

Sportsnet's Brian Lawton claimed the Nashville Predators and Phoenix Coyotes would be very interested in Briere. This comes on the heels of speculation the Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues were also looking at the 35-year-old.

Briere began his NHL career with the Coyotes, but the constant uncertainty over their future in Phoenix rules them out as a serious candidate for his services.

Though some observers believe Briere might waive his no-movement clause to play for a Stanley Cup contender, he was quite insistent about his desire to stay with the Flyers.
