I think he showed enough grit here. He finished checks, won battles and flashed some skill. I'd rather keep him up but he has room for improvement and it's hard to say what's better for his development, big minutes in the AHL or low minutes against higher quality NHL competition.

so Rutherford basically cost Bennett a game, because he's too lazy to get off his butt and make the waiver claim that everyone knows he is going to make.

No shocker here whatsoever.

This organization doesn't reward young players when they do well. They penalize them.

Regardless of when a team claims a player, the process only goes through at Noon the following day.

I don't think so, if you didn't read my post on the previous page

Bennett will be recalled tomorrow when Boychuk gets claimed.

It has nothing to do with a demotion or not rewarding players.

Guys, lets dial down the melodrama just a hair. It's tiresome.

At least wait until tomorrow after Boychuk gets claimed and we see how that roster spot shakes out.

Deep breaths, people.

I wonder if Bennett will have to do what Tangradi did a few years ago. I remember the Pens wanted to start Tangradi here at the beginning of the season but there was a cap issue where he had to be sent down for a day and then return. He literally had to drive all the way to Wheeling, report and then drive all the way back over this cap situation.

I don't have a problem with sending him down to get more minutes and beef up.

I do have a problem with Boychuk not being waived before a roster spot is cleared in this manner. Guy's horrible and contributes only slightly more than Eric Tangradi, who was also horrible, did.

Wait, Boychuk was waived? Thought that was a false report.

They did when Therrien was Head Coach. Didn't Jordan Staal make the team and stay because of a strong training camp despite junior eligibility left? Just another example of why there is negativity directed at "Disco Dan".

It was reported by multiple outlets, including Bob McKenzie. Did you see a retraction somewhere?

It's quite amazing how you can say thing thing below about waivers and this statement at the same time without seeing the connection.

They kind of had no way to know. If Malkin fails the test today and then someone gets hurt tonight, all of a sudden Boychuk's in the lineup right? So it kind of happened quickly. All it's costing Beau is a drive out to WBS and back. It happens. Fleury can probably drive from here to Wilkes-Barre with his eyes shut.

Yep. A player will be on waivers for 24 hours, generally noon-noon, unless it is a Sat or Sunday, then I believe it is 48 hrs.

Until he is claimed or sent down, said player counts agt the roster limit.

I wanted to see Crafton cut his arm off with a hacksaw though... Thx Eyes way to ruin it... Doucher.

Does anyone know how long you have to report when you are assigned? Does Bennett actually have to drive there right now?

Well then I way overreacted. Glad he'll be right back though.

I think I heard on somewhere like NHL radio once that they do physically have to go. They go, report to someone at a certain place (the rink?), maybe sign something, and then come back.

Not sure. I mentioned the Tangradi incident a few years ago where he had to report even though he wasn't really being demoted. They opted to send him to Wheeling since it was closer and brought him right back up.
