Chris Stewart (To MTL)

What would it cost Montreal to pick up Stewart?

I'd say they'd want Eller + a decent piece... but no thanks.

Stewart is playing very well this season no reason to trade him at all. He brings something unique to the Blues that no other player does.

In fairness, so does Perron, and he's in just about every Blues trade thread lately. Perron is also signed to a good contract and we don't know what kind of negotiations the Blues and Stewart will have.

Armstrong likely has a price in mind for Stewart and if he can get the sense Stewart will sign for that he probably stays but if Armstrong gets the sense Stewart will play tough on contract talks I think he's a much likelier candidate for trades.

That is awful. Blues fans seem to have such a strange obsession with Eller it's kind of creepy. Blues fans seem to forget that Stewart's awful season last year was still better then Eller was last season. There is only a 2 year age difference as well.

Stewart is a decent player with size Montreal needs. But I wouldn't pay the price it would take to acquire him if he was even available. Habs are just too short on depth to quite be able to make trades like that yet. Eller, for example... I wouldn't swap him for Stewart. Not because he's better or anything, but really, Habs just need to add pieces, not swap them around, and whether Eller is a little worse than Stewart as an asset overall or not, he's still a young center with some size and has been playing so well lately... I'd rather look for a big winger on the UFA market in the summer, and just spend money, not the few assets the Habs actually have in hand. It's not urgent, the Habs aren't desperate to add size on the wings RIGHT NOW, so I think my conservative philosophy makes sense.

Depends on how long Bourque will be out IMO. I think Stewart would fit in great for Montreal long term. Especially once Gio is gone from the top 6.

Yeah, but the Habs are 13-4 and you therefore can't argue too effectively that the Habs *NEED* size on the wings. It could come in handy. It would be "nice to have". But the situation isn't desperate. Could wait a few months and try to sign a guy without giving up prime trade assets. Then maybe if that fails, a trade would become more interesting...

Is it as creepy as Pens fans' obsession with Chris Stewart?

Id do that in a heartbeat. I doubt STL would though. Weber has little to no value and Leblanc is having a rough year.

Weber sucks and Leblanc is struggling. Stewart would pretty much need to lose an arm for this to be equal.

Habs don't have available what it would take to get Stewart. Gorges would, but unfortunately he's not available.

The Blues need a top pairing LH defenseman not a 3-6 guy. Adding Leblanc to a trade with St Louis is essential worthless we have a lot of NHL wingers as is with 2 better wing prospects as well in Rattie and Jaskin.

Habs would likely have to part with Tinordi...and that is not an option!

St. Louis needs a #1 or 2 left-handed defenseman or a #3 Center.

Outside of Gorges, I don't see any trade Armstrong would be working on.
