Bill Barber as a coach

Just wondering why Bill Barber did not continue to coach after the flyers? He won the Jack Adams in 2000-2001 and had a great ahl coaching record. Also why was he fired in 2002?

I think the word back then was that the players absolutely hated him, and when a coach/players relationship reaches that point it affects the teams performance.

Great players don't always mean great coaches. See Wayne G.

this was going to be my response. I remember at the time, a few talking heads suggested that he took the "I have done this myself and know what is best" type of position

Barber's wife Jenny died in 2001-'02 during that season. I can't imagine that did him any favours. They were married 30 years way back when Bill met her while he was a Kitchener Ranger in juniors. Maybe he wasn't the same mentally? Who knows? But that was an era in Philly where they replaced goalies/coaches like it was going out of style. I guess in a way they still do. Anyway, I remember Keith Primeau being a big advocate of firing Barber. I always found that a little funny, who is a worse playoff performer than Primeau?
