Sadly I think this did play a role, although we have 3 games before the Rangers so they could have given him 4 games to achieve that.

Due to Kaleta's suspension history, the act, and playing the Rangers again soon... 5 games is fine.

Richards also didn't practice with the Rangers today. The Girardi hit was nowhere near as serious or dangerous.

Yes, and it lead to a PP in overtime but the Sabres couldn't score.

You can tell so much from a still image...

No one is saying Kaleta is blameless, so I am not sure what you are implying there.

It was a 2 minute boarding call.

I would love a 4th line of Pat Kaletas.

Also, 5 games is weak sauce. The result of the push was far uglier than the crosscheck itself, which isn't even saying much since Richards isn't injured. We're gonna miss Kaleta big-time on the PK the next few games.

Weak. As usual, I'm fine with the suspension, but wish the league was more consistent.

I'm not sure what you're implying either. The image shows his neck in a very unnatural position. Kaleta had plenty of time to hold up and not shove him face first from that distance into the boards.

From a still image (Follow me here) no one can see all that you posted. It looks like a player skating towards a player who is crunching against the boards, head/shoulder making contact.

Think about it. Try.

That's why a still image doesn't show much. A video is the better medium to use. Especially in high action things like sports. Try again.

Btw .... Very few are arguing against the overall point you're poorly making.

Shouldn't have even been a penalty. If anything Richards should get 2 minutes for being the softest POS in the NHL

I really do not think he should of gotten anything, it was literally a bump that anyone who didn't embellish would of brushed off with ease. Richards is so soft...

Nah, he has to know better, and from his comments he does. 5 games is a bit harsh, but I would have had no problems with 2-3.

These comments are the ones that are so absurd that I'm shaking my head. I don't see how anyone can deny a clear hit to the back of the numbers shouldn't be penalized. Nobody is selling going head first into the boards. There is nothing soft about that. You go through shock afterwards being in that position. You simply have to know better.

I can't even bring myself to listen to what that pompous wreck Shanahan says in his video.

My best guess:

"Due to a push in the back which cost a marquee player in our #1 NHL market nearly a full minute of ice time, and set up full whiner mode interviews for himself and his loudmouth coach, I am imposing the maximum possible suspension."

I would have suspended kaleta for 10+ games.

He viciously nudged Richards. So much so that he had literally broken his back for about 10-20 seconds.

Hopefully NHL 13 remembers to adjust Brad Richards' balance attribute to 60 when they put out a new roster update

Torts talking out of his ass if he thinks thats the most dangerous hit he's ever seen.

Almost as disrespectful as slapping a fan of the team you're one of the coaches for, right John?

I get his anger since he got hurt.

How was Richards able to avoid going to the quiet room as part of the concussion protocol? Endangering your own player after a hit like that is all good since your on a PP?
These comments from Torts and Richards made me so mad that I didn't go all the way thru the thread to see if I'm adding anything of value or not.

Point 1 is most dangerous hit ever? Uh...more dangerous hits include Chara on Pacioretty, Torres on Hossa, Stevens on Lindros, on Bertuzzi on Moore.

Just lost a lot of respect for Torts..... even though I know he's just playing to the crowd.

Point 2: has any outside of Buffalo fans noticed that Kaleta is a SERIOUS hockey player with a little bit on ice ability (besides being a pest that is)? I mean he's a solid 3rd/4th line forward who takes regular shifts and has become a pretty darn effective penalty killer.... which takes a bit of ability, mind you.

Sorry to sound like a fan boy .... respect and some affection here for one of WNY's own is admittedly in play here...... But Kaleta is not a goon and has more ability than Torres and a host of others he gets compared to.

Arrggg....! So many outside commentators with no clue are just talking out of their blow holes.

Sorry JJ, none of this is directed at you.......

I still don't understand how this is 5 games yet Lucic can run over a goalie and get off scot free.

Since the discipline is inconsistent, they are never going to solve this issue

I played hockey my entire life, and that my friends is the definition of soft. He literally barely touched him.
