Cowen - Update: Practicing with Team

Update on Cowen:

Cowen has been cleared for "light on-ice activities", but the Sens still do not anticipate a scenario where he will return to action this year.

From Mendez's Twitter.

Even if they foresaw a chance he could play this year, they probably wouldn't make it public. They may like the fact that Cowen gets to rehab with 0 attention given all the other injuries. And why put any pressure or expectation on him....don't wanna make him rush or anything.

Cowen and Spezza will come back in time to make a charge into the playoffs. Our goaltending will steal us the first round, Karlsson will come back in game 7 of the 2nd round and lead us to the conference finals and eventual Stanley Cup loss to Chicago.

Is he on track in terms of recovery?

His injury history is concerning to say the least; but he's young enough for me not to worry too much

This indicates he is ahead in terms of recovery.

His injuries might also pertain to the fact that he is growing still and his tendon's and ligaments are a bit strained from that. When you're that big a kid at his age, it means a lot of crazy growth spurts.

With Emery in net while Hossa scores the game-winning goal?

If there is any chance he can get back this season and we are in playoff position, it's like adding a top-end top 4 to this team. We would be ten times stronger on defense and have a much better breakout pass from the top 4.

Man, I wish but doubt it. He is skating with almost 2 full months left in the season so anything is possible.

Great to hear! As for returning this season, I don't see it happening, but I wouldn't rule him out just yet.

With almost a full year off hockey, I wonder how much it would have affected his development. I think next year is his contract year as well. Hopefully he comes back as that beast shutdown guy we need as Phillips has lost more than a step and isn't suited for that anymore.
