I'm not even sure why you're in here, on another team's board basically flaming posters after making an offer that you(hopefully) didn't think through very well.
A sure thing? No other team was willing to offer sheet him, not to mention the proposed contract will pay him 6.5 million his second year that is ridiculous. Its crazy to give up that kind of value for a player holding out. Apparently not to many people thought he was a "sure thing" except for the GM who forgot the rules and you of course.

4 reported teams. That doesn't include teams who weren't reported.

Re: Iginla

I know it's still a big IF (And consider the source) but Garrioch seems to think that Iginla has a good chance of winding up in Pittsburgh.

I'm mentioning it here because I've looked at the Pens and can't seem to figure out what or who would be coming the other way (Especially if it were to include a roster player). Any insights on what a possible deal would look like?

I think Feasters recent offer sheet is an indication that he knows how terrible we are down the middle. He should be targeting C's or C prospects in any Iggy deal.

Trades are really hard to complete nowadays in the NHL so we aren't going to be making 6 or 7 trades at the deadline. So i think we should look at where the FLames can deal from their depth (and I don't necessarily mean by the deadline, offseason too) here's what I think:

Goalie - if Flames really think Raamo is an option for next year then deal Kipper. Re-sign MacDonald for a backup, let Irving walk, Taylor and Broissoit (also Ortio) in minors.

LW - Tanguay, Cammalleri, Baertschi, Glencross. Gotta move one of Tanguay or Cammalleri. Or Baertschi in a blockbuster for a #1 center.

Next year I would be fine with Raamo in net.

I would be fine with Bouw, Wideman and Brodie spearheading the top 4.

I like Glencross-Stajan-Stempniak as our 3rd line.

I like Hudler-Cervenka-Iginla as a scoring line.

Then Backlund, Baertschi, Tanguay, Cammy sorted out depending on the moves.

Final take is move Kipper, Gio and Cammy. That's a big enough undertaking for Feaster in light of the "new" NHL trade scene.

I could see Carolina calling Feaster regarding a Kipper trade.

Ward is out 6-8 weeks, and the Canes are right in the mix. Plus, with the speculation of Kipper potentially retiring next year, it might be a win-win for everyone.

Carolina:
Kipper

Calgary:
1st 2013 + Sanguinetti
or
Murphy + 2nd 2013

If this happens (and I honestly don't know the likelihood of this happening), I would much MUCH rather take Murphy + 2nd. I think that'd be a great deal for us. Not sure how sold the Canes would be on giving up Murphy so early on though, especially for a rental in Kip.

I doubt we could get a 1st and no way we get Murphy. I think Zalpe straight up would be more than fair.

I don't know how I feel about trading kipper. He's 36 years old, reaching the end of his career. Is he really going to fetch us that much value? Assuming Ramo comes over we'd be looking at a rookie goalie as our starter for next season (unless you count his short stint in Tampa). IMO if the offer is really good take it, or else keep him as a mentor for Ramo. They're both Finish goaltenders and we could see a nice connection between the two that would really help Ramo's transition to the NHL. Of course there's the "rumor" that he might retire next season so i don't know. If this was in fact his last season then I would be open to trading him.

I'd definitely take the Sanguinetti deal if I had to choose between the two. I'll take that 1st over Murphy any day.

The Hurricanes need a stopgap for two months, that's not Kipper with his $6M caphit until 2014. Leland Irving on the other hand would be perfect. It would also be nice to get something (like a 4th rounder) for him instead of letting him just walk in the offseason.

I also agree that Ellis is quite capable of holding the fort for two months so it could be they won't trade for anyone.

It sounds like they may be looking more for AHL depth more than anything so Irving for a 6th would be good for both parties. It would finally give Irving some ice time and let people have a look at him before he becomes a free agent.

The two most egregious trades. Yzerman won't part with Connolly and Chiarelli won't trade Campbell. He's a very useful player that brings some outside benefits given who his father is.
