Someone a while back posted that at a minimum of 150 or more games coached Sacco has the worst winning percentage all time. Does anyone remember that or have a link to substantiate that?
He coached his AHL team to the longest winning streak in the history of hockey, a team by all means not the most skilled but that played the best team hockey in the minors. Cooper has jumped through the hockey world pretty quickly, winning wherever he's gone.
His team is currently #1 in the AHL again, despite losing its leading scorer from last year in Conacher and Aulie being on the main team.
He's a former lawyer that got involved in coaching youth hockey and got so hooked he coached professionally... simply put he's perhaps one of the most intelligent coaches to rise up the ranks of late. He's not at all remotely stuck in his ways like ex-players are that turn into coaches and his players love him.
A young team like ours that needs structure and a coach which can instill some confidence in them would flourish under Cooper. I highly doubt he'd cost the Avs a big salary if we gave him a shot in the NHL and if you ask any TBL fan, they'd swap him for Boucher in a nanosecond given the chance.
Unfortunately the Avs are too set in their ways to make a move like this.
He certainly has some impressive things on his resume.
Played hockey at Notre Dame High School in Wilcox, then went to Hofstra University and played four years of lacrosse and one year on their hockey team. Graduated and then got his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.
He first started coaching in 99 for Lansing Catholic Central a high school team, and won it's first regional championship in 25 years.
Won a championship with the tier III Meto Jets of the CSHL in 02.
Was GM/HC of the tier II St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL for five years, posting a 223-93-17 record. Won Championships in 07 and 08, and best coach in 06 and 08.
Was GM/HC of the tier I Green Bay Gamblers of the USHL for two seasons, and won best GM both years, and best coach the second.
Biggest one year improvement in USHL history with Green Bay, when they went from 32 points the previous season without him, to the most in the league with 82 points his first season.
Had a 84-27-9 record in two seasons with Green Bay, and regular season championships in both years to go along with the playoff championship the 2nd year.
Only head coach to win a championship at all three tiers of junior hockey in the US.
Won a silver medal as HC of the USA U-17 team at the 2007 Five Nation's Tournament, and was a finalist for the US Olympic Committee's Development Coach of the Year.
TB hired him in 2010 to coach their AHL farm team, and he set a franchise record for Norfolk his second season with 55 wins and 113 points, and outscored opponents 273-180. Won the regular season championship that year, swept the Marlies for the Calder Cup, and also the AHL's best coach award.
Total record with Norfolk those two years was 94-44-10-8, and 18 different players saw time in the NHL in his time.
TB moved their affiliate to Syracuse this year, and he just kept on winning posting a AHL record 28 game winning streak, and currently leads the AHL in points.
More importantly in terms of his chances at a job with PL's Avalanche, his team leads the league in goals for.
Having players like Dryden, Robinson, Lemieux, Lafleur, Lemaire, Savard, Gainey, Shutt, Yzerman, Trottier, Jagr, Francis, Fedorov, Chelios etc sure didn't hurt his percentage.
Sure but no matter who you have, keeping your teams that competitive for 30 years is impressive. Lots of time to have off years or lose teams with your message in that time.

Well he did lose his teams on ocassions, Lemieux (clash of two primadonnas) hated him and basically runned him out of Pitt, I know for a fact that the 70's Habs hated his guts as well, I'm not sure who was the guy who said it (I think it was Lafleur), but one of those legendary Habs players said they would've won more if it wasn't for Bowman, hell even Stevie Y hated him when he first came to Detroit. One thing is certain Scotty Bowman was no players coach, the only guys who come to mind as worse when it comes to handling their players are Shore and Imlach.
One can only pray for Patrick Roy to become coach of this team. Even Guy Boucher, hope he gets canned by Tampa and the Avs found some way to bring him in. Guy gets his players motivated extremely well

That's exactly what Guy Boucher is . Plus, he got a reputation to really make a PP work . This guy is a PP specialist , and he has been a PP specialist everywhere he went . Guy Boucher is a winner and had success at every level he coached .

If Boucher is available the Avs must jump on the opportunity. But that will probably mean that the Avs will have to clean the house behind the bench too... Quinn and co , and i doubt it will happend . Boucher will want to work with Daniel Lacroix and Martin Raymond .

And I'm pretty sure that both men can do that, the motivation is just a bonus when it comes to how they coach. Sucko has neither
Let's not get too crazy about Boucher. That Tampa D is playing so badly right now, it's ridiculous. Just saw highlights of the Bolts/Pens game tonight and on one goal Victor Hedman is sliding all the way into the corner to try and block a pass or shot or...I don't know what. Just awful. The blueline that Yzerman has assembled isn't great by any means, but when a coach known for defense has them playing THIS badly, something's up.

I suppose this argument is moot though...Boucher won't be our coach, nor will any other coach who doesn't have some sort of past Avs/Lacroix connection. It'll likely be Quinn and we just have to hope he gets the job done.
Roy has no NHL experience and he's a bit of a loose cannon but he's probably our only hope if we want someone from outside the organization. Otherwise we'll just get someone who is currently with the Avs/Monsters.
