Goaltending depth to Carolina

From Lebrun's blog
Quote:
Rutherford might be on the lookout for goalie depth at the AHL level but don’t expect any big goalie trade otherwise. Ward will be back, the Hurricanes just have to survive until then.
As it was pointed out by Lebrun, Carolina might be looking for some AHL depth in net. They currently have a very inexperienced duo in John Muse and Rob Madore.

I would expect something minor, similar to the trade that brought Karlsson to Chicago.

I guess goaltenders like Michael Leighton or Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers (who is currently playing in the ECHL) could be had for very little (aka conditionnal 7th pick).

I know Carolina has Mike Murphy on its reserve list. Murphy played about a month in Europe before being released. Maybe he could be signed?

So what do you think the Hurricanes are going to do? (No Luongo proposal please...)

They should just sign Barry Brust for the rest of the season.

They would have already have this problem solved had they kept Boucher, instead of giving us a prospect to take him.

Likely inquire about Leighton first to backup Ellis, and send Peters back to Charlotte.

Leland Irving could probably be had for a 5th or 6th round pick.

I was thinking that it might be a good way to move Leland Irving so that he can finally get some games and show different organizations what he can do as he moves into free agency.

It would be a really good opportunity for Brust.

And Irving would still sit on his butt while another AHL goalie plays for the Heat.

Seen Pither's stats lately?

Totally worth Bouch, especially considering it was a request of Boucher

For Carolina or Charlotte?

Brust would need to clear waivers to be sent to AHL and I guess Calgary won't let Carolina steal him so easily...

I was going to jump in and post something like this but you beat me to it.

It does make sense now that he's a free agent...

Just curious - Would he have to pass through waivers? He couldn't be signed to an NHL contract and moved laterally from Abby to Charlotte?

CBJ has Curtis McElhinney, who's an AHL All-Star this year and has been terrific.

For Charlotte. No way Calgary adds another NHL contract when they are sitting at 49 currently. They also have Kipper coming back within the week (presumably) and one of Taylor / Macdonald will likely end up in the AHL. I suppose Carolina could wait for one of them to hit the waiver wire as well.

Edit - I dont believe Taylor has to clear waivers again as he previously cleared.

I would like to keep both, but the Leafs are going to need to make a decision on either Rynnas or Owuya soon, and either could probably be had (probably more likely Rynnas) especially considering Garrett Sparks either needs to be given an ELC by the draft or we lose him.

Also, why isn't Mike Murphy playing with Carolina? I thought he was decent enough in a back-up role...

Other options might include Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers from ANA, Hovinen from EDM, maybe Elliott from StL (though don't see them giving him up) or seeing if Raycroft wants to come back to North America or maybe even Legace wants to come out of retirement

Liked him in Ottawa. Would like to see him get another chance in the show.

I assume it has something to do with Murphy calling Charlotte "a prospect graveyard" before he left for Russia....

Maybe I was dazzled by Brust's hot streak. Last time I checked his stats (at the time the Flames signed Taylor) he was at .944 and he had a GAA of 1.50. About a month later, his stats have really taken a dive (He is now at .916, 2.33).

I think there's a thirty day window where you don't need to clear waivers if you're sent back down. After that you still have to go through waivers.

I think - maybe I'm wrong.
