Not sure if you guys heard it, but Pierre McGuire said Cooke asked Malkin why he didn't pass it to him instead of Neal on the EN goal, and Geno replied, "Because you'd miss!"

Good stuff.

Man, I dare anyone to watch tonight's game and tell me Stamkos is better than Crosby. Not that anyone here would say it, but damn, Sid was on tonight.

----- last 30 seconds of the game. Of course they let Stamkos get back within 2 of Crosby in points.

++ Malkin: welcome back, Geno
+ Crosby: he's OK i suppose...
+ Fleury: kept them in the game the entire time, only gave up flukey stuff
+ Despres: sheltered minutes or not, he's earning his spot in the lineup
+ Engelland: taking Orpik's role of hitting everything that moves
+ Eaton: silently effective for the Pens
+ Letang: stepped up from a poor performance in Montreal
+ team toughness: thank science that they played harder and grittier tonight

- Orpik: just not very effective this year at anything he does
- Kennedy: even less effective at anything he does
- closer score than i hoped it would be

-- Stamkos scoring from garbage, padding his stats. i swear, the ENTIRE Lightning offense is funneled through him.

If Philly can manage to make the playoffs.
The Pens played 2 really bad games on the road, and 1 pretty bad one that they managed to win, and all anybody can talk about after a solid win is how we have no chance to win the cup. Where was all this *****ing during the winning streak earlier in the year?

Our fourth line is horrible and keeps getting pinned in our own zone shift after shift. I thought the third line was kinda garbage tonight too. Jeffrey looked super soff on the puck.

Top two lines were good. Fleury was good.

Orpik could be the biggest whiner in the league. And he has no place to whine since his play generally results in the play he goes on to whine about.

It's crazy that they both end up with 2 points tonight. Sid was a freak out there tonight setting up everyone and creating about a million chances, Stamkos finishes well twice, and there you go.

Stamkos is a helluva player, and absolutely the best goal-scorer in the league. But it should be obvious to anyone who knows the game that he's really not on Sid's level - you don't hear Stamkos' name much until he snipes. Which is admittedly pretty often, haha.

Tonight's game was representative of both players, I thought.

Thought Kennedy was alright. No big turnovers and a couple of good shifts.

IMO Stamkos's opportunities were garbage. Crosby made his points happen both times he wound up on the score sheet.

not that Stamkos sucks, but his goals were pretty cheap.

That is absolutely correct. One guy dominates, one guy just plain finishes. That is who they are.

Philly has their own problems but unfortunately they are too good to not make the playoffs. They are also designed perfectly to beat the Pens. Look I'm happy for the win but I want more than outclassing bad teams in the regular season.

+ Sid and Geno were flying all night
+ Kunitz is having an amazing run
+ MAF kept the team in the game in the 2nd with some great stops. Again bad bounces and blown coverage skew his stats, which is what matters, right?
+ Des, if he's scratched for Eaton when Martin comes back I'm gonna freak out.

+/- PP, one of the 3 looked great, the other 2 not so much

- Orpik
- DB for terrible line choices
- 4th line was a liability tonight
- Letting Stammer score twice. Giving him a free goal with 8 sec really pisses me off. Sid will win the Ross, but has a chance at the Rocket, too.

what sucks is that almost nobody on HFBoards outside of Pens fans give him any credit and they STILL insist he's overrated.

Yep but there is something to be said for a guy who just finds a way to finish. he has that knack, can't take it away from him. I agree that his two look like garbage and Sid's looked like plays of the night, but at the end of the game the scoresheet still shows two points each.

Personally, I will take the guy who can dish it to everyone and make the whole team better.

Yeah, agreed. And I mean no disrespect to Stamkos either, obviously. He is an incredible talent and a world-class player. But as somebody said above, Sid left (at least) 4 points on the ice tonight. I'm anxiously waiting for the game where all the bounces goes his way and he finishes with 6 points. If he keeps playing like he did tonight, it'll be sooner rather than later.

No doubt, Stamkos is a very talented scorer, but nothing like Crosby as an all-around player. Watching Sid, I get the sense that he is playing ahead of everyone else on the ice much in the way Gretzky did. With Sid, any player can be a threat to score. Stamkos depends on his shot, and therefore seems to disappear when checking gets tighter in the playoffs.
