What ?

30 teams, 4 rounds. If the oilers suck the pick at best is 120. That's not including any potential compensation picks.

You're talking about a 3rd round pick.
Let's set aside compensation picks.

1st round: 1-30

2nd round: 31-60

3rd round: 61-90

4th round: 91-120

Brown is going to be a great fit for Edmonton due to his grit and speed tandem. Though I can't help but feel Edmonton management really dropped the ball here.

Brown is the kind of player you can acquire easily in the offseason for very little. Due to not building an NHL team properly, Edmonton is now forced to overpay mid-season.

Only a 4th but it shows a larger issue here.
Yes, the Oilers future is in serious question because a 4th rder was dealt in 2014.

2010: 1st overall, 3 2nd rders, a total of 5 out of the first 61 picks

2011: 1st overall, 19th overall, 31st and 61st

2012: 1st overall, 32nd, 63rd and 91st

2013: Looking like it will be top 10, possibly another 1st in a Hemsky trade, ANH 2nd + our own 2nd

I won't deny that a 4th seems like a bit of an overpayment, but we have no idea if TO had other offers.

for me the math is simple

Oilers have a **** load of prosepcts in the system--they have an extra 2nd rounder this year and they needed some toughness on the 4th line who can actually play and by the sounds of it..Brown will stick up for the kids when they get run and will toss the body around and will take the stupid penalty--sometimes that is what you need.

99% of the time I hate trading draft picks, but in this case and Fistric case, the oilers added toughness they were missing

Lmao horrible trade by Tambo. 4th rounder for a 4th liner? You could have had your share of 4th liners for free last week

It is a 4th. Nobody is expecting it to become a 3rd lol.

And if it does, then good for both teams.

Good trade for the Oil. But I have to agree with what some are saying. Why doesn't Tambo just claim some of these guys off the waiver wire? Brown was expendable because Nonis didn't waste an asset for his replacement.

Good for the Leafs. The Oil have no business past the second round anyways.

We needed to make some room because Lupul, Frattin, and Gardiner will all be back soon, and it's always nice to pick up some extra picks. I'll miss Brown though, he was a solid fourth liner who's speed and very physicality made him great on the forecheck. He is undersized for a tough guy though.

Don't know if it has been mentioned, but wouldn't Tambo have had a hand in drafting Brown during his tenure as VP of player personnel with the Nucks? Guess he really likes the guy.

mclaren is a better fighter, tougher, and less of a defensive liability. I like brown...but mclaren has been good this year, brown has been only okay. (for a fourth liner obviously)

Do you honestly think 4th round draft picks become regular NHL players?

Even if the pick does become a Regular it will be 17/18 season at very earliest , Really don't think it effects Oilers at all.

Ugh, I know. He should have made an RFA stab at a guy who would have to go through waivers. What a hack GM.

The oilers can draft, it's their choice to follow the cbj mold and rush skinny 18 year olds into the nhl where men push them around thats the problem. No one couldve seen that coming eh edm fans. Maybe just everyone but edm fans
