This is absurd. He didn't push him THAT hard, but he crosschecked him in the back for no reason several feet away from the boards. Richards could have broken his neck on that play. It's not like Richards turned at the last second. It was a dangerous play regardless of the force or intent. That's why the young-ens wear stop signs on the back. Plus Kaleta is a serial offender so a message needed to be sent. 5 games is totally reasonable.

I am against the over calling of boarding when guys get laid out from the side or turn at the last second, but this was as blatant a bad play as they come.

Would be pretty wild if a team that just barely didn't make it ended up with the #1.

I hope a team slotted somewhere 7-10 gets it so all the Pens consiparcy-tards can lighten up a little and see that Uncle Gary loves us all the same.

Yep that's always been a good one. The Pens tanked to become good yet teams in the last 5-6 years who have had a monopoly on the top 5 are still in the basement year after year.

Well we did tank at the right time haha. It's one thing to tank and get Taylor Hall and The Nuge and quite another to get Malkin and Crosby.

Question, did the Pens really tank?

I hear the conspiracy theorists and people who hate the Penguins say we did. But to my understanding, we had a team going bankrupt in a non-salary cap era. Craig Patrick couldn't bring in the talent because we couldn't afford it.

It's not like we iced all stars and purposely lost, that's tanking to me. You're not going to win when your best players are Dick Tarnstrom and Ric Jackman.

I was just kidding

No I do not think we intentionally lost if that's what you mean. I don't really believe teams do that. I do believe that teams become sellers to "start the re-build" and that makes perfect sense. That said, it's not like we decided after the Jagr trade that we would trade all our good players so in 4 years we could draft the then 13 or 14 year old Crosby.

No, no I know you were kidding I just didn't think the Penguins said "oooo Crosby and Malkin, time to lose"

We were like the Florida Panthers/Columbus Blue Jackets back then.

We didn't have to tank, even better the NHL awarded us Sidney Crosby

I think it's pretty much a given that the Pens management put the team in position to tank for Lemieux, but the 2001-2006 teams were just that bad. Of course the biggest fail was the Senator's tanking for Daigle.. oops

The Jagr trade really hurt. If we get an impactful young player or two out of that deal then maybe we could have been a decent team. Mario staying healthier would have helped too. I'm thrilled with how it worked out though. We lucked into a great time to rebuild and get top picks given who was available at the top of those drafts.

Seriously though, only two #1 picks from "tanking" (since Fleury was traded for) and they end up being Lemieux and Crosby. Edmonton just has ****** timing, is their problem.

You'd probably enjoy having a beer with Marchand after the game whereas you'd stay as far away from Avery as possible.

On top of that the Bruins have their own divers in Marchand and Seguin. I've seen Chara go down easily in the playoffs as well. Just a bunch of babies that can't handle a loss like some grown ups

Ive added Schenn, Carter and Brouwer to round out my forwards. Working out quite well. I claimed Niklas Backstrom on waivers, then traded Getzlaf. lol If that sounds like a downgrade it is but it got be a nice haul in defense, goaltending and LW. lol

Seriously? And Bruins fans cry foul about Matt Cooke and Ulf Samuelsson? And say we're whiners and divers? Oh man!
