BTW, Dorsett is extremely unlikely to be moved. Again, RW depth not so great, plus he has pretty high value to this team.
TK would make sense, if the rumors are true. I'd personally rather keep Jeffrey, since he's the more versatile player. Both are signed through the end of the season and will be RFA's, so I'm guessing either one could be moved for a pick rather than a rental. Like Tender Rip mentioned, TK hasn't been having such a wonderful season, so I would imagine he could be picked up pretty cheaply.

I would love JJ here...but I just can't think of the plausible trade that makes sense.

Orpik and TK? No longer idea of value tbh.

JJ isn't the kind of dman help we need right now...

Despres and Morrow/Pouliot would be a nice return for JJ.

Would be crazy if Johnson and Crosby are re-united. Could probably be a big boost for Johnson's stats, though I am not sure how he would perform defensively, wouldn't be too optimistic about it. He would certainly put up a lot of points feeding Crosby the puck though.

The Pens would have no reason to give up a D who looks like he's going to be very good and has looked like a potential partner for Letang and one of their top two prospects for a D who is a good player but not exactly what they're looking for.

JJ is by far the best player in the trade currently but the Pens are a team that needs to have good and cheap solutions wherever they can in their line-up, and Despres & Morrow are likely to be two of those solutions next season. That trade would create more problems than it would solve.

If we have Despres and Morrow...why would we want JJ?

Well, you could make the argument that JJ is proven Morrow is still a prospect.

But I agree, I don't see the need for him, I actually like the defense the way it is, the lineup and D pairs could use some adjusting, but I like the 8 defensemen the Pens have on their roster.

No they don't. Pens can afford giving up prospects for Johnson. Maybe Despres, Pouliot and a 2nd?

I think we're past the point where Despres should be considered a prospect. He's playing well and unlikely to go back to the AHL.

But anyway, the logic from my last post still applies here. Swapping Pouliot out for Morrow doesn't make it much more logical for the Pens.

That's why I can't make sense of this. If anything Despres could handle even more minutes and Morrow is probably going to be making a big push in training camp in October. Not too mention they have stockpiled D prospects past couple years and have Pouliot, Maatta & Harrington in the system. It just doesn't make any sense to try and aquire a defenseman like JJ.

The Prospal rental makes more sense to me.

This is a head scratcher for me. If re-alignment is approved, the Jackets and Penguins would be in the same division. Why would Columbus want to make a big trade of a player like Johnson so that he would then be in the division to haunt you going forward?

Maybe this is a lesser trade.

OT but swap Orpiks and Umberger? Two struggling players for each other.
Leaves Columbus in logjam in def but trade deadline is coming.

TK & Maatta for Johnson.

Then, Shero flips Orpik or Nisky to somebody else for a winger.

I love JJ as a player but I honestly don't think he's what this team needs. Especially if it will cost us one Simon Despres.

I bieleve that the Jackets would want a pretty hefty return as they traded Carter for Johnson and a first. I bieleve if the Pens have a chance to get him out of Columbus theyre will need to be a first round pick involved and atleast 1 grade B+/A- Prospect so here is my proposal:

TO
Jack Johnson
Derek Dorsett
2nd Rd. Pick 2014

TO
1st Rd. Pick(Late 25-30)
Simon Despres
Beau Bennett

Pens get there D-Man along with a tough 3rd/4th Liner in Dorsett who can Fight, Hit and can put up some points, and a second in 2014. The Jackets get younger with the additions of Beau and Simon who have shown some good signs so far in there young careers and they add a fourth first round pick in this years draft. IS THE VALUE ATLEAST CLOSE OR NO?....

I'm biased, so I won't speak to the actual value, but if Shero gave up the Pens 1st, Despres, and Bennett for that package, I would literally light myself on fire outside of CEC.

I'm not good at determining player value, but that isn't even close. The Pens get shafted.

if the pens give up Bennett & Despres/Morrow/Maata/Pouliot in any way, let alone with a first attached, i hope it's for a Iginla type player, not JJ.

Just playing around with lines while at work so don't kill me.

Pens gain:
JMFJ
Prospal

CBJ gains:
Kennedy
Despres
Bennett

Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis
Prospal-Malkin-Neal
Cooke-Suter-Jeffrey
Glass-Vitale-Adams

Letang-JMFJ
Orpik-Martin
Niskanen-Engelland
xEaton, Bortuzzo

Looks pretty good on paper but we lose wing depth once Prospal is gone.
