If Torts has taken a shine to Miller, he will not be bumped until Miller completely blows chunks for a 2 week stretch.
Boyle was scratched for 3 games earlier this year.

I'm not defending Torts or Boyle but this is a bad example of what you are trying to say.

see Bickel, Stu.

(Not to derail this thread) but Boyle was taken out of the lineup because, as pld noted, he had sucked for two weeks straight. Played well in his first game back into the lineup, and has been back on Torts' good graces since, despite still being terrible.

Zucc should be in this lineup due to his offense alone. Give him time to learn the defensive system for once.

Would be 50th pro contract no?

Do they use that last contract on a pp specialist that the coach isn't convinced will be an NHL player?

Needs to be scratched again for a few more than just 3 games.

He's been brutal this year.

questions is....

What does he do now..

He said in the past that he'd love to play in the world cup with Norway, but that's 2 months away..

So he can go back to Norway, hang out with friends and train with some clubs there or go to NYR and keep himself in shape...

I could see him wanting to prove he still belongs with the Big Boys and signs a short term contract, but I've been wrong before..

Also about his "fighting" penalty today it was because he stood in front of theire goalie trying to tap in a rebound - the defender didn't like that so he tried to push zuc around...of cource zuc didn't like that and pushed back....not much of a fight.

He'd be a great fit on this squad as he was last season before he unfortunately got hurt. He helped the PP out tremendously. Even Torts noticed by crediting Zucc for doing so publicly. Bringing him in will also take a lot of pressure off of Richards for running the entire PP. Zucc brings it every game and always has a positive attitude. He's a type of guy that you want on a winning team.

I really can't see him choosing to play in the World Cup over NHL, if he gets a fair deal to do so. He will have plenty of opportunities to play in the World Cup later. Cause if he signs, he's not playing this years World Cup. I think it all depends on if he gets a one-way deal or not. He's not coming back to North America to ride the bus with the Whales.

Does anybody know if he signs a contract for this season, if he will be a UFA or a RFA after the season?

And if he signs, how many games would he have to play for him having to go through waivers if he were to be sent down?

He will be an RFA until he is 27 years old, if I got it right.

If he wanna play WC, he has to join camp Roy right away. He cant choose nacho duty
Holøs will be there to ,for two mounts like last year, turned him in to physical monster and a minute eater.

I really doubt Zuce will sign a contract just for this year, and loss several millions from Magnita. It will take at least a two years, one way contract.

Meanwhile, the Rangers, looking to bolster their scoring, having already had discussions with the agent for ex-Ranger Mats Zuccarello about bringing the 5-foot-7 Norwegian back to the NHL. Zuccarello’s KHL season just concluded as his team, Magnitogorsk Metallurg, was eliminated from the first round in seven games.

“We have already talked to Glen about it,” agent Don Meehan said in an e-mail to The Record, referring to GM Glen Sather. “We will wait to hear from him.”

I'm all for bringing him over again. He could help our PP and brings offensive creativity we sorely lack.

hopefully he is back and plays in place of brian boyle. :| zero consistency. the guy dogs it out there every night and can't even hold onto the puck. throw miller center zucc on the wing and our 3rd line becomes a legitimate threat.

hagelin/stepan/nash
gaborik/richards/callahan
kreider/miller/zucc
pyatt/halpern/powe

don't think boyle has earned a spot. let kreider and zucc and boyle fight for the final spot when asham is back if we feel we need his grit

i can see him signing for 1 season, but doubt he signs past that due to the depth that we currently have going forward (plus lindb and fast(h) next season)

Bring MZA back. Adds another dimension and he'd be good on the PP.

That could be a obsticle for sure.

Hopefully something could be worked out with his russian team or he can count on getting paid just as well if it wouldn't work out in the NHL. It kind of depends on what contract he signed in the KHL in relation to what his market value is now. For all we know its perfectly possible that he got like 3m USD tax free (about what, 6m per year in the NHL?), and only would expect to get 1.5m USD tax free if he looked for a new contract in the KHL this summer. That's of course quite the risk to take.

There is for sure only one way to get Zuke back; a one way deal. I don´t think Zuccarello minds a contract with less pay than in Russia, as long as it´s a fairly good deal that assures him the same pay even if he gets sent down to Hartford.

An interview with Zuke in norwegian papers some time ago told the story about a guy that has a really boring life outside hockey. To live in New York and play for the Rangers will be a totally different life for him, in a positive way, and I would be surprised if he weren´t willing ot take another shot at it with the right offer.

This. If he wanna come here, we should take him. As long as Stu ****in Bickel is in the line up as a forward, there sure is room for him. And the PP sure needs him.

Even if it is just to trade him as a rental asset at the deadline, I see no reason not to sign him in if he'll take a deal for the rest of the year.

Only way he does that is if a deal can be made with Magnitogorsk which allows him to sign a short term deal with NYR without breaking his KHL contract.

I don't see why he wouldn't be able to get a new KHL deal next year if he exercises his NHL out provision now if he wanted one. I'd expect the real inquiry for him would be what would get him more money, keeping next year's KHL salary in his current contract, or getting paid for the rest of the NHL season + a new KHL/NHL deal for next year. I'd expect the Rangers would structure any deal he signs in the NHL this year with minimal salary and a signing bonus to counter the effect of the limited period he would be playing, so I would be shocked if he wouldn't earn more money from being paid by the Rangers this season (in addition to what he already earned in the KHL) + a new KHL/NHL deal next year.

If it was a multi-year deal in the KHL that he would be walking away from I agree it wouldn't make any sense for him, but he's only signed there for one more year, and there's no reason to believe he couldn't recoup the expected earnings from the next season by signing a new deal for next year.

shootout and PP he helps no doubt. I see no harm in this and for those that say its a bad idea you realize they have played a ton of AHL call ups right? Newbury, Segal, Haley, Ferrerio, Mashinter then the prospects like Thomas and more of Kreider and Miller

Also he could have some value in a trade at the deadline if they chose to go that route

The Rangers are giving Zuccarello a 2 year 1 way contract? $550,000 is the NHL minimum salary for 13-14. That is one way. Anything below $925,000 allows the Rangers to shed the SPC in the AHL. How much money is Newport Sports looking for? The Rangers cap situation for 13-14 doesn't allow him to pay decent money for a question mark which they can't shed in the AHL.

Yeah, the only thing that makes sense is 1 year 1-way 2m per or something like that. If Zucc plays well enough -- ie fix our PP, which would make him close to a PPG player -- we can afford him as well as we can afford any player in the lineup and we can also resign him to a 2-3m deal.

But like you say, Slats aren't giving Zucc 2 years and 2.5m per as it is now.

Yeah, I thought about this too. It depends on how satisfied they are with him and so forth. Its hard to tell for us.

Norwegian newspapers speculates that he makes 10 000 000,- NOK (about $ 1.756 000 ) pr season i khl...

When he was with us, didn't he make about $ 875 000 (about 4 982 000 NOK) pr season ?

I believe the ahl salary for zuke had he stayed the whole season there was about $ 70 200 (400 000,- NOK)

It's a huge gap between scrap money to play in ahl and star money playing in khl....

I could see him wanting $ 950 000 pr year for a one way deal with NYR..

Since the latest now is that "We're waiting for him to get back to us" - I take that as Glen has to talk with Torts...
