My money is on a trade to Atlanta. They'd LOVE a replacement for Savard, I think.

Do we even have the cap space to add a Briere to our team?

What would Atlanta give in return, they couldn't give Savard 4M per, now they are going to give Briere 5? The one thing with Buffalo is they will not take back any salary dumps.

Would they want Ribeiro?? it's possible, but it will take at least Perezhogin and first rounder plus either another blue chip prospect or non roster dump roster player.

I'm perfectly content with the roster we have now. Getting Briere would almost certainly improve it, however, but I have large doubts. I just don't see #48 in Montreal in a trade. Maybe as a UFA, but not trade.

Obviously a Sabres fan. That's an insane trade. Komisarek and Higgins are both young productive players who are three to four years away from UFA status, which means they also come cheap. And why would we want to trade for a more expensive back-up in Biron who becomes UFA next season, and is older and no better than Abby. As for Briere, he's a small centre who also can become UFA next summer and the Habs have no guarantee that he'll sign with them since, I believe, no negotiations can commence for an extension until after Jan.1, potentially leaving the Habs with nobody by the summer of 2007 and without Komer and Higgins as well. You don't build a winning franchise that way.

Look at the Havlat trade. Ottawa sent two roster players (Havlat and Smolinski) for one roster player back (Preissing), two okay prospects (Barinka, and Hennesy) and a second round draft pick, and that was for a guy (Havlat) that Chicago was able to sign for three years. With Briere unable to sign long term until Jan. 1. I don't see the Sabres getting anything of value for him right now. They would be better off to keep him and do a St. Louis "Doug Weight" type trade later in the season.

If Gainey makes a move to land briere, he is officially the best GM in the NHL.

Riberio would no doubt go the other way. If Buffalo had no interest in Riberio at all, then a trade between us wouldn't work. Unless Bob aqquired Briere and then sent Riberio somewhere else almost immediately for a pick/prospect.

I could definitely see that happening, or even waiving Ribeiro

let's not get out of hand... IF he gets him... let's see what he gives up

like i said before... Unless it's Ribeiro and something like him, I don't want Briere

i dislike ribs... but if we have to deal someone like ryder, perez, higgs, kost, pleks, etc. etc. either straight up for in a package, i don't want him... i like briere, but i like our team as is... so unless we're giving up ribs and picks, i don't want him

Sabres won`t trade Brière in their own division.

Question: If the Sabres said Riberio and Latendresse for Briere straight up, would you do it?

I agree... briere will become an ufa next season and is making 5M$... no need to overpay to get him

ribs + mtl 3rd + caps 3rd

We'll have to dumb some salary (abby) to be under the cap though...

It has to be Ribeiro and Ryder going the other way. That in itself will pay for Briere.

I would do it for 5 years of Briere. Throw in cheap replacements for Ryder in Kosty and Latendresse into the top six and you have a good mix of size and grit.

No. And for the record... I don't think Lats is the "saviour" he's supposed to be, either. I just don't think it's a smart move to make.

However, now that I think of it... it's we're talking about a long-term deal, I'd seriously consider it.

But if it's Briere on a 1-year deal, then no.

Personally I would. Our top six would be extremely small though. Only thing I don't like. Skill wise we would be up there with the best in the league:

Koivu, Kovalev, Samsonov, Briere, Ryder, Higgins.
