Even though it may be denied by Briere and Holmgren, where there's smoke, there's fire, right?

That's pretty much the only trade I'd like to see happen for Briere, other than that I want him to stay a Flyer. Again screw all you Briere haters.

Prospects that are of interest from those teams. In the order I would like them

Phoenix:

Gormley
Goncharov
Murphy

Blues:

Schmaltz
Allen
Fairchild

Nashville:

Ekholm

Boston:

Spooner
Krug

Like go for it said, where there is smoke there is fire. Seems more and more teams are becoming more interested in Briere. Which means they either think he is available or he is quietly being shopped. Only interesting team is Boston, because they are an Eastern Conference team. I would make them pony up more if we trade him there.

Now do I think we could get any of them?? I have no clue.

We'd probably have to add to get get Gormley, even though that would be amazing. Rundblad for Briere might work out better. We don't need Allen since we have Stolarz (even though Allen is here and now to play).

Weber looked kind of disinterested to me in last nights game. Seems like he just knows that they cant score goals and gets pissed when they get down by a couple

I noticed this as well. The games I have seen Nashville play he hasn't seemed like his dominate self. Not sure if it is just the team struggling or else, but he didn't seem interested. I will say I would not be totally shocked if he is on the trading block this summer if Nashville fails to make the playoffs and is still piss poor in scoring. I don't expect it, but wouldn't be completely surprised.

EDIT: And yes I know about the bonuses and everything. Just saying maybe there is a chance. Also not saying he would be coming here.

He just doesn't seem to be skating very hard most of the time. And he never really stands out when I watch them. I always have to pay extra attention to notice him on the ice. Maybe he misses Suter playing next to him or maybe he really did want to leave Nashville, but wanted to make sure he got a new contract before the new CBA

Maybe Weber misses Suter or maybe he really did want to come to Philly and be a Flyer. It would be amazing and hilarious if Weber demands a trade to the Flyers over the summer.

I don't know how that would work trade wise though.

That's what I was thinking about. Hasn't Nashville payed like 36 million out so far and they're due to pay him another 13 million before he can even be traded in the summer?

They payed him 13 million when he signed the contract and 1 million through the season. He is owed 13 million again next summer on the date he signed the contract. (for the next two season after that as well. (They are paying him 14 million through the first 4 seasons, then 12 million per after that for 2 more. He also gets a 8 million bonus for those seasons also.)

Nashville will have paid him about 27m before they can trade him in July

He doesn't have a NTC so if he demands a trade, he can go wherever the team wants him to go

If they are going to trade him they will trade him to whoever gives them the best offer. I think the flyers would inquire about him if he was on the trade block but wouldn't have assets to get him

Briere a non-factor again tonight. He's so bad at everything besides scoring that when he's not scoring- he's awful.

Given his contract - if the Flyers are out of the hunt in 3 weeks - they should absolutely just take the best offer they can get

Don't give him the option, healthy scratch for rest of year or go to playoff team that will most Likely amnesty him in summer.

Those 4 teams must have some terrible offenses to want Briere. I hope he gets traded soon to up the return.

Heh, and if I'm Danny I just say send my checks to tahiti, I'll take a compliance buyout in the summer.

We have very little leverage here.

We have more than you think.

Briere might get more money overall if he waits for the buyout, but things aren't done in a vacuum, and players don't only think about money.

He's getting up there in age now - and even if he were to be moved now, he'd still get his pick of destination (so that doesn't really change whatsoever). The only factor is how much money he thinks he can squeeze out if he get bought out over the summer.

However, as we both know, in pre-season, teams don't lineup as they 'should' at all times - so what happens if he picks a team to sign with that "should" be good, but flop? Now he's committed to that team again.

Whereas, if he accepts a trade mid-season, the team he's traded to (which would obviously be a higher-end team), he's guaranteed of at least one more run to the cup, because he wouldn't waive for a non-playoff team.

Also, knowing a team wants to trade you, would you just want to stick around? I wouldn't, and that becomes a personal choice. Not all players want to stick around in cases like this, and would look to move on quickly.

It's not always so cut and dry - while he may make more money if waits, he may have a better opportunity if he doesn't.

I wouldn't fault him either way, but I know what I would do.

Or the Flyers, who are known to give jobs to retired players, tells him if he helps them out now, they will help him out later. Can't think of a better way to stay in the area long term than a job post retirement with the organization.
