The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Tuesday that the hockey club has signed defenceman Korbinian Holzer to a two-year contract extension through the 2014-15 season. As per club policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Holzer, 25, has played 16 games for the Leafs this season scoring two goals and registering 19 minutes in penalties.
The Leafs originally selected Holzer 111th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Interesting as a lot of scribes had him as the odd man out whenever Gardiner is recalled from the AHL. This move shows the Leafs have some faith in him, so maybe he won't be the odd man out.
Dan O'Toole: "So if I have this right, only acceptable goal celebration in NHL is to put hands at your sides and then feel shame."
He's been playing well. Good size, skating and reach. I have more faith in him than others as I see him rounding out as a legit top-4 guy.
I LOVE everything Nonis/Carlyle has done so far. Instantly cleaned house by trading/demoting Connolly, Lombardi, and Armstrong and making room for Kadri, Frattin, Holzer.
I hope now Kostka is the odd-man out. He looked great his first few games but since then the shine has wore off. Maybe Florida has some interest with the Dineen connection. He had nothing but good things to say when the Maple Leafs met the Panthers
Good move by Toronto keeping this guy around...big, strong, stay at home defenseman who seems to compliment Phaneuf quite well.
yep excluding last night's game where they were both atrocious. Holzer's been pretty solid for the most part but the last few games have left a lot to be desired. He's gotta step his game up a bit. This to me tells me Komi and Liles could be on their way out. Carlyle's system just doesn't seem to fit what Liles brings to the table.
