It will be interesting to see what future RFAs will demand now that O'Reilly got his big contract. Has Feaster changed the entire 2nd contract situation with this high-salary move?
(Figured this could go here since we talk about 2nd contracts in general).
Will we see more RFAs hold out from now on?

Theo goes down with a knee injury in tonight's Canes/Cats matchup. Clemmer comes in and subsequently gives up three goals on the first three shots he faces.

See...life could be worse than being an Avs fan.

Something I don't think I'll ever see again just happened. Gionta and Chara just took a faceoff.

Oh. My. God. I'm watching the Leafs feed of their game tonight and their announcers literally speculated whether the Leafs could afford to give him 5.5 million a year. And we thought we had it bad with O'Reilly! Hah.

Then they said if they couldn't, would it be worth more to trade him or hold onto him for a playoff run and they agreed they should hold onto him.

Talking about Kessel? Or Kadri?

I'm guessing Bozak.

The Leafs should trade Bozak since it's clear Kadri is the team's top center going forward, barring some run for Getzlaf or something like that.

Could be Kadri. It's a contract year and he's putting up numbers.

Leafs usage of their centers is a bit strange.

Bozak is being used as a scoring line center.
Kadri is a sheltered offensive third line center.
Grabovski is being used in a pure shutdown role, as is McClement. They have 32-33% offensive zone starts.

Normally you'd think they'd switch Grabovski and Bozak since the players skill sets seems to not being properly used at the moment, but I think Kessel and Grabovski are too similar and they'll suck the usefulness out of the other if paired together.

Actually, Grabovski is the Leafs best two-way player. He's being used perfectly, it's not Carlyle's fault that Burke paid the guy so much.

Bozak has shown great chemistry with Kessel in the past--not sure why it's not working at present, maybe Kessel isn't enjoying the same amount of ice time. They were experimenting with JVR at center, I guess Carlyle didn't like what he saw in practice.

Bozak is a good two-way center, but I don't think he's exactly a shutdown-type guy.

Weiss is out for the season with wrist surgery. That sucks for Florida as he would have brought a decent return from a team looking to make a run.

It does suck for Florida, but could be better for Colorado if they decide to take a gamble and trade Stastny, Weiss is one less C on the market for trade, and therefore could make Stastny much more attractive.

Things must be getting desperate in Nashville. Two waiver claims on forwards in roughly a week's time. Either that or Poile's getting ready to make a trade...doubt it though.

Pekka Rinne gave up 5 goals on 13 shots last night. Unreal.

I saw that. Lucky for me, I forgot to update my fantasy lineup and he was riding my bench!

Really haven't kept up lately, but how has Nashville's defense been looking? I know they started the year off well but completely fell aspart.

Leafs signed German Korbinian Holzer to a 2 year extension today and I can tell you that he's better than O'Pylons or Hunwick (and I'd say inconsistent Hejda too). What did they do to get him and Leo Komarov (who's better than most of our top 6)? They scouted Europe. They did draft Komarov I believe but signed him when he was almost an FA.

Why can't we scout a better dman than the ones we have now or a good bottom 6er in Europe? Could make a huge difference to this team. Are you really saying that the best dmen in Europe are worst than what we have on our blue-line now? No way, especially some of the ones who have some past NAmerican ice experience (27 year old dman Ryan Gunderson on Brynas for example who's a small 27 yo dman but is one of the leading scorers in the SEL the past 2 seasons for dmen and is surely better than Hunwick based on a couple games I saw during the lockout).

No and no. I'm actually a fan of Holzer's game, but he just a solid defensive defensemen. Hejda is world's better than Holzer. Komarov wouldn't displace Mitchell or Hejduk on the 3rd line right now. BTW both were drafted by Toronto in 2006.
