We don't need defense. We have like 10 guys....

A
2nd and maybe a prospect depending on if the 2nd is late.

Just thinking.
We arent going to eat part of his salary going forward nor are we going to give up a prospect for any team to take Liles.
With 2 compliance buyouts its easy to get rid of a contract. If some team wants him they can have him but we wont pay anyone to take him.

I can see something like this going down. This trade works for both teams, especially if Toronto can unload Komi.

Edmonton fans would have said Brown why would we want him he is a scrub does not even dress...

Yet your team traded a 4th that might be a third for him....

So it is my learned opinion that your value on Leaf players is way off..

Can you link a thread where Oil fans said that? I remember some Colton Orr talk that sounded like that before he was sent down last year, but nothing about Brown. Most of us are pretty excited to have another physical depth forward, Brown was one of our needs. With Justin Schultz, Ryan Whitney, Correy Potter, and Jeff Petry all in the lineup, the Oilers simply don't need another puck mover, unless we move Whitney first.

With our pitiful even strength goals for, I don't think you can say poor defensive play is really at fault. We just score so many goals on the powerplay that our collective plus minus suffers. In fact, we're 14th best in Goals Against Per Game. The Leafs are only 11th. I don't see how us taking Liles would help us in that regard.

That and the fact he has been a healthy scratch on some nights,

Also his cap hit of 3.875 for 3 more seasons? Oilers have a bunch of kids coming up that will be needing ice time. He does not bring what the oilers need to the back end. They have Schultz and Petry as PMD's--they need more of a Bryan Marchant or Jason Smith type of D man

Marchment and Smith were very different players. We already have a Marchment in Fistric. All he was good for was a hit, and he threw too many dirty ones for my liking. We certainly could use another Smith though. A harder hitting Smid.

If Liles is dealt, it will be for a pick/prospect not another roster player. The only reason he would be dealt is because of having too many roster players.

What? Source or stop posting. Making stuff up about fan bases just irritates everyone involved.

Right now Rieder looks like a hell of a steal in the 5th round and I think we will hold on to him for a while

How is a player that has been sitting in the press box worth a 1st.

I'd want at least a 2nd and preferably a little more.

Liles has put up 7 solid NHL seasons prior to this one, is making a reasonable $3.85 million over 3 more years, and is good in the room. He should still have a fair amount of value, despite him being a healthy scratch the past two weeks.

To add to this. A team could have the best defence in the NHL . Giving up 1.5 goals a game for a full season and all be - if the team does not score . Look at their GA they are around 10th over all . Our top 6 is too small and is getting pushed around and knocked of the puck . Dam those defence men

We can have Kevin Lowe to thank for this.

Liles is a decent second pairing PMD, who has put up decent points in his career. He might be slightly overpaid, but not by much. The question is can he still play post concussion, and it is impossible to answer that when he is in the press box. At this point I'd suggest he really has little value, outside of insurance for Toronto in case of injuries.

If a team has a need, a second would easily get this done and the only reason it might be that high, is because he is an insurance policy for Toronto. I'm not saying Edmonton as the trading partner, just in general.

Liles back to the Avalanche for a pick (2nd or 3rd) seems more plausible. He should be playing.

This is about what we will get for him, and nobody on these boards will offer up or discuss realistic value because he's a Leafs.

I think the Aves need to move a depth d-man or two before they would bring Liles back. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the Oilers, but we need to move Whitney and/or Potter first. He's certainly an NHL caliber d-man, and would probably fit in nice on most teams 2nd pair, but not many teams have the roster space (or open contracts) available.
